And also Launchkey does arpeggio and chords in standalone mode but not the sequencer that only SL MK3 does on 8 channels with 8 OLED displays

My studio is white, with a white desk, mouse, keyboard, and screen. That's why I only use white keyboards. Arturia provides me with a great opportunity for that. I use their KeyLab Mk2 and love it.❤🇩🇰

I have the 61. Got it immediately after it came out. Was a nightmare at first. Once you do all your upgrades ON EVERYTHING, it works fantastic. Personally the MK2 is better functionally, but this thing looks fantastic. I like white gear and this is perfect for me. So do ALL your upgrades and it should work fine.

Would be great to see you using it with Native Instruments VST's see how it goes with mapping and the like. Thanks Jeff.

Appreciate it! They're all great keyboards, but none of them are perfect... Just a matter of finding which features each person needs specifically!

You didn’t notice the light bleed near the transport controls? Looks distracting! The comments on key travel were spot on, but it’s still disappointing that Arturia didn’t include aftertouch, since I believe it’s on all (?) the keysteps, and those are cheaper, but then again, lots more keys here. The NI doesn’t have pads or faders, something the rep tried to explain away on YT. Then we have Korg introducing midi 2.0 with the promise of interacting between kbd controls and VST’s in real time. So basically ‘introduce a few features and get ‘em back the gas merry go round’. In other words, give us midi 2.0 with controls that map to vsts , give us an interactive display like NI, give us faders and pads, and give us long key travel, with mpe and aftertouch. Don’t remember if the sl mk iii has aftertouch but it has many of the other features, and others have some of the mapping/mpe like the nektar stuff.
@jefgibbons9 ай бұрын
I don't see light bleed in real life... looks decent to my eyes! As for aftertouch, I meant to also mention the experience on the KK MK3. It is such a tiny portion that you are able to push down, and you really have to push to get anything out of it.
@rich_in_paradise9 ай бұрын
The aftertouch point is interesting. I wonder if the keyboard on the Montage M8X has the same issue or if they just made the overall key depth deep enough that you can still comfortably play it like a piano, but then also have the movement for the poly aftertouch. I don't remember any reviewers complaining about the lack of movement anyway. Not that I'm in the market for a £4k synth anyway :)
@jstew5129 ай бұрын
it has a pretty light action, at least compared to my other pianos (digital and real) but it works really well for patches with or without PAT.

I was wondering about the PART/SPLIT function. Canu you split the Keybed into 2 different channels in order to send midi notes to 2 different tracks on the DAW?

Get it Jef! I'm getting the 49. Those weighted keys make me a lil jelli but I am definitely not 88 key keyboard guy yet but I like & probably need weighted keys. Thanks for the insight as always sir🫡

Thanks for all your videos! I own both the keylab 88 mk2 and the keylab essential 88. I am sending the Keylab Essential 88 right back. This keyboard is absolutely non-functional in todays mpe/after touch ruled world. Yuck, what a waste. For the same price you can purchase an Arturia minilab for instrument control and Nektar Impact GXP 88 with after touch and a better software selection.

Totally irrelevant question, but do you work out, Jef? You look great, man 🙂 On topic: hoping for the upgraded bigger brother very soon. Have high hopes for that one - hope they can deliver. I sold my Keylab MK2 because of flimsy and unresponsive knobs and the keybed was not great (very very light).
@jefgibbons9 ай бұрын
Thanks! I've been a runner my whole life, every other day... and I lift light weights on the off days. I had phases of my life where I worked out hard for several years at a time. As for the keyboard, the knobs are almost too firm! They keybed is light for sure, I don't mind that, but a weighted version would be great!
@Mikas_Emil9 ай бұрын
@@jefgibbons It shows. I just started doing morning planks and exercise every morning 9months ago and I feel stronger than I ever did before. I think they had quite some problems with too loose knobs before, so maybe thats why! I also like synth action, but almost prefered the mk essential line to the "pro" brother. But feel is pretty subjective I guess.. Have a great day, Jef. And thanks for the vid.

@@jefgibbons that’s the reason why I keep my old SL73 + M-Audio Code and bought a second used one if the first one stops functioning. I looked everywhere, expression inputs use to be reserved for high-end keyboards now.. I don’t know the reason but I feel new products need to be designed to seduce electronic music players.. here a drumpad on a 88 weighted keybed controller is a quite a non sense from my pov 😅

Why are those keyboard lights visible ? it's very annoying and I think it's a construction problem ! the light inside the case is reflected on the keyboard! it's embarrassing !
@jefgibbons9 ай бұрын
Go check IRL before you judge, I had the contrast on the shot cranked so you could see the screen so it's not a fair representation of the lights in most environments. You may still not like it, but definitely check it!
