Күн бұрын

Scotland is in the midst of a growing grassroots movement aimed at increasing public awareness of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). We now have glaring scientific evidence that childhood adversity can create harmful levels of stress, especially if a child is left to manage their responses to that adversity without emotionally reliable relationships. The vision for ACE Aware Nation is that all 5 million citizens of Scotland should have access to this information. The ‘ACEs to Assets Conference’ was held on 11 June 2019 in Glasgow, drawing an audience of nearly 2000 members of the public keen to explore actions that can be taken to prevent and heal the impacts of childhood trauma.
In this film, we hear from Dr. Gabor Mate, international expert on trauma, who explores the theme of trauma as disconnection from the self and why relationships are central to the prevention and recovery of trauma.

I adore this guy! He genuinely uses himself as a model of all that he speaks leaving no stone unturned. He knows we need to get it right admitting he doesn't have all the answers as to how to help ourselves. I like the 12 step as he does but on the other hand disagrees with self labeling/shaming we must do to 'earn coins.' This man uses and leads retreats using hyauasca 2x/ year to help increase the the healing process in his highly acclaimed The Jungle Prescription, free on youtube. He has hundreds of free videos explaining in depth his process for helping us understand ourselves and the familial vs inherited flaws. There is simply no other person with a valuable mission to help heal the world from a psychosocialbio analytical perspective as he does. Gabor is screaming edge adept at knowing the human discord.

@@christinerosevalenti387 Dr Gabor has never said anything about selflabeling/shaming we must do to ‘earn coins’. He is an advocate to not to shame ourselves, and not even do the blame-game. And that healing starts when you reconnect with the Self, which was the trauma in the first place (disconnection with the Self). And to recover is to find the Self within us, which we lost when we gave up authenticity in order to keep the relationships whom were important for our survival.

If only Gabor Mate could be in charge of mental health issues in Scotland! During my difficult periods with mental health in Scotland, I was occasionally referred to a young nurse at my doctors medical practice. She was a nice person, but what she offered was utterly useless, it was an absolute farce. I knew more about mental health treatment than her, and I realised that is was all a facade, a token gesture to placate the traumatised and the depressed. Shame on you, Scottish national health service.

I think child abuse is epidemic. There is so much shame around the topic that very few can bear to properly address it, to ask these questions. My parents were wealthy yet profoundly abused us, physically & sexually. No one would help us because of the money we had. Wealthy people do not beat their kids or sexually torture them, of course… Very high profile people abuse their kids. It must be kept secret no matter what. There is a glitch in humans as a species that this goes on. It is too horrific to even look at much less properly address.

I hear what you're saying and share your frustration, but I will say that although it took literally 20 years since the ACE Study was first published in America, trauma informed care is now becoming much more widespread in our schools and in the education of human service workers (I'm a retired social worker and didn't encounter the ACE study until the last few years before I retired in 2014 unfortunately). This is of course only a beginning, but this information is so compelling and powerful and important that we the people must force our politicians to address it and fund necessary programs and training. I agree that many of those who historically have claimed to be "helping" have often been doing the exact opposite, particularly because the Medical Model of illness simply stigmatizes the person suffering, diagnosing them and simply treating symptoms rather than the root causes of that suffering.

Get out your head get into your body, go to your core, become radically honest with yourself as to what you need to feel, allow it, sit with it, the subconscious feeling, let it thaw out and dissolve, boom, you’ve healed your trauma. Trauma sounds like a horror movie but guess what guys, every one on earth can return to their liberated unharmed slate if they really want to, your spirit remains unharmed, you just have to undo yourself from your numbing and blinding obstructions, the more you release these unconscious feelings, the more clearer you will see, the more you will feel fulfilled.

So simple knowledge, just knowing it and believing in it gives relief. The effects of ACE can be seen everywhere. It takes years for sufferer to know what is happening to him. A simple solution reaching to the needy in years...or in decades, why.. because few are talking about it, awareness are low, subject is taboo. I have always understood this to be true: The PREFRONTAL cortex is also responsible for housing the addiction center of the brain and of dopamine levels -- Increases due to environmental or organic reasons,, as well as, it is responsible for an increase in cortisol levels - increasing from stressful environments at birth and onwards throughout one’s life span. Or Question: Are the cortisol levels increased solely by the adrenal glands? Not happening in the brain whatsoever but the gut? AND increases in dopamine is from the human-made, natural endorphins -our happy, feel joy and love sensations unless there are outside chemicals ,negatively influencing brain and its profound neurological makeup? What happens to the brain when it is subjected to stimulates for add self care? Or, I should have replayed the video upon which I might have heard you state: The Middle Brain lol But, another question I have is where endorphins are made within the brain and released? Where the addiction is born out of emotional or physical pain and the solvent took it away or numbed it. Ahh...amygdala? Emotional memories, earliest memories. I imagine, however, the WHY, the precursor to the actual addiction comes much earlier than its manifestations in either substances or things. The woundedness is present, as soon as the trauma comes in, but it is through a process of what works best to alleviate any suffering from the emotional pain/wounds/ within the individual, which The bio psychosocial suggests the reason was already there. But what addiction will feed the void ? The wound is there. Thank you for your response, if you are able.

(And I so wholeheartedly agree with what he stated in a conversation with his son, Aaron,: ''People need to think for themselves . . . .'' and: ''It is in fact _better_ to be disillusioned, than to live with a [false] illusion'' . . . .) The realization of past lives and bringing certain karma (predispositions) into this life is will be what the individual has earned and must work thorough and master. Responsibility for ones actions, though, and words helps to understand and recover and become healthy. In a disconnected society, this should be mandatory curriculum for all teenagers so every generation makes an improvement on the previous one. Why do we not have this things down by 2021? We is school so far behind and disconnected from preparing us for life? A lot of parents have certainly not been prepared because addiction has been a growing issue for generations!

He's great! I love his calming voice. I wonder if he knows about "Tapping" ? TFT was the original, Thought Field Therapy. Bodies are like an electric box. The 'switches' in our nervous system 'blow out' or 'switch off' when the mind/body experiences an emotional/physical threat by a traumatic event (even in the womb). By tapping various meridians on the face and body while 'thinking about the event' will "switch the life force current back on" and no more stress will be felt. Also the stress of the event can't be recalled as a trauma anymore. It works really well on a suicidal person too whose life force is completely shut down. They can flip it back on quite easily. All soldiers at war and after war need tapping too. The electric current running through the body is the connection to God. Our negative thoughts and judgements keep switching it off, meridian by meridian. Only love is real ! I live in the States. Peoples voices on the News are too hyper and negative talk of drama and destruction. Listening to it causes more stress...and a shut down. Tapping brings you back out of the depressing, fear creating TV News addiction too. I Love listening to Gabor. He has a great healing voice and words. I say, More Gabor 💝

Addiction to me was giving up the life I lived which just wasn't fucking working. I needed to go on an adventure and possibly discover the other side of me. I didn't know how to do it. But I felt like I had no choice: I can't find you God; You're gonna' have to find me. I didn't believe that God loved me I guess; it was all about Him. I was done. I had become the prodigal son. I just want to go home, wherever that is..........

After getting an MA in English , I decided to get a teaching credential in order to be practical as regards job employment. It was after receiving that credential that I read that "a childhood education was to provide productive members of society". I took this to mean what I think it did mean: ie to produce kids who could make money for the USA. Even as I read it and tried to learn it by heart- in case I was asked by a job interviewer the goal of education- I thought that's NOT right! Hearing your lecture, what I really felt has been given words and I'm going to stand by that and ignore the other dictum which is not based on Humanity or children in any way shape or form. The education of a child is to guide the development of their brain in all its manifestations: curiousity; expressions contrary to the status quo; expressions of hurt; and, in short, providing a sanctuary for emotional and intellectual vulnerability as it arises. That is, to be able to say- I do not know or that does not feel right-are important to the development of a mature, curious and questioning brain.
