Im facinating how the song is 10:22 seconds long. The lyric at the halfway point 5:11 he says "Mitosis". Mitosis is the act of a cell splitting. You notice the songs tone changes after the "split" from dreamy and more tribal / hand percussion to the more typical Tool sound with the full drum kit taking over and the bass and guitars becoming more aggressive. My admiration mr. Maynard...

If he was not trying to get numbers he would not be doing 1 or two Tool reactions per week. I mean it is obvious than the Tool fanbase can guarantee a great visibility to a channel like this. This is the only valuable reason why we have around 20 Tool, APC and Puscifer reactions on this channel when other bands don't get more than 3. It does not mean it is a bad thing, but it could be acknowledged. Just to prove how low tech Tool are, he really does all of that with his guitar, I was trying to learn to play it and people were telling me to get a volume or expression pedal, and others were saying it was a studio effect, turns out it's literally just a hammer on and the volume knob on the guitar!
@spaantz3 жыл бұрын
@@MrRevertis Yep, and the sound of using the volume knob is different than volume pedals because with the knob it gets slightly less distorted as you lower it but with the pedal it just lowers the volume.
@MrRevertis3 жыл бұрын
@@spaantz Not that I bought the pedal to check this, but when I was looking into it, someone said you can use a volume pedal to get this effect, if you put it in sequence before the distortion pedal, so it is changing the gain rather than just the volume - is that not correct? Adams guitar at the beginning isn’t a bow, he’s sliding whilst using the volume knob on his guitar, that’s what he does live any way 😶✌️✌️
@carlgalilee73393 жыл бұрын
Yep, this, although he's using hammer ons rather than slides for this particular piece and he tends to use a volume pedal rather than knob for most of his swell effects. Same result but much more control with a pedal. What makes it particualrly cool is he's playing notes ahead of Danny and syncs his foot rather than his hand to bring up the volume on the beat. If you practice guitar, it takes quite a bit of rethinking when you've trained your hands for so long to be in time with the beat. Adam uses volume changes extensively to shape his sound. He sets his amps up to his highest gain (and rarely changes channels on the amps) then uses volume to back it off for clean pieces or just on the edge of break up.

I believe Adam and Justin are doing it, which would explain the "back and forth" sound we hear in the beggining. Unfortunately FI is Tool's weakest album. The magic just isn't there. They gave it a fair shot (the production sound is superb) but the album lacks cohesion. It is a collection of nice ideas, riffs and grooves that are performed excellently but it lacks that uniformity in complexity that the earlier albums had. This is not to say that you can't like Fear Inoculom, great if you do, but this is the first Tool album I don't want to listen to over and over again.
@moztardo3 жыл бұрын
@@blipbobeep8345 I agree Fi lacks the thematic uniformity found on their earlier albums, but I see it as a kind of anthology album which draws on riffs and sounds from days gone by but also has the quality of sounding more mature and sophisticated. Aenima is (& probably always will be) my favorite Tool album, and I definitely get ppl who say Lateralus is their best work. That said, I believe every song on Fi stands out on its own merits.

I'm going to send this video to my best friend who introduced me to Tool almost 2 years ago, I'm so certain he's gonna love it. Thank you for doing what you do Geebz!
@tesina213 жыл бұрын
Please look at this! I think you'll find it fascinating if you were previously unaware. Tool is unique because Adam, Justin and Danny make the entire song as an instrumental first. Maynard has no input during this foundational song writing process. He is very adamant about wanting the COMPLETED, final song (instrumental) in order to start visualizing the melodies and writing the lyrics. He views himself as being a complementary instrument added at the end, meant to enhance the beautiful, powerful music that was already there, already composed by his 3 bandmates. From what I understand, this production process is rare.

The "bow" sound from Adam in the intro is him doing volume swells with his guitar volume knob with right hand while left hand frets. Hes specifically raising the volume half a beat after he frets so the intial "attack" of his fretting hand isnt heard. Makes it sound soft and pleasant.
