We NEEEEED more Tame Impala! and this is coming from a huge metal guy, too. Let It Happen (studio version for the full song) by Tame Impala is my personal favorite. The production on it is insane. Each of his albums sound pretty significantly different from another. All of it has a psychadelic theme, and the kind of rock and pop it expresses that trippy theme through varies throughout Kevin's discography.

OMG Geebz, if you're getting into Tame Impala, which btw is a great move into a genre you haven't covered yet, you have to check out the musical opus that is Let It Happen (studio recording) off of the Currents Album. There are so many compositional and arrangement nuances to it, and IMO, a tour de force of a song. A real masterwork album with a great deal of maturity, experimentation, and concept story arch.

elephant is the only tame impala song that sounds like elephant sounds. kevin parker (aka tame impala) does every instrument himself for the albums, and with each album, he reinvents the sound. the earliest tame impala albums (innerspeaker, lonerism) are solid alt, experimental, almost grungy rock, but the latest albums (currents, the slow rush) are much more electronic, soul, R&B, dance. but for my money, everything the guy does is psychedelic gold. probably my favorite band of the last decade. jane's addiction "three days" is my suggestion for a reaction vid. =) thanks for these!

Tame Impala is part of a neo-psychedelic revival that's been going on outside of mainstream trends for about a decade now. Unknown Mortal Orchestra is another really good band doing similar stuff that's worth checking out; all their albums are fairly stylistically diverse, especially the past few, but a good place to start would be something like the title track off their album "Multi-Love".

Yes please play “Let it Happen”. But for background Tame is Kevin Parker. This skinny Aussie dude who plays all the instruments on the record and records it all in his home studio. He’s a drummer by trade but learned all other instruments. What’s cool is he plays the drums through his tracks but then chops them up as if they were samples for the final production. He thrives on having this vintage psychedelic rock way of doing things. So glad you visited Impala country! Please do more!

Lots of comments on where to go next for Tame Impala so I’ll throw my suggestion in with Half Glass Full of Wine-great rock tune. Bit different from what I’ve seen you react to so far but I would love to hear your take on some songs from Animal Collective. They started as a noise band and traveled through various experimental sounds and psychedelic folk but they’re are mainly known for their experimental pop. Tame Impala is an Australian neo-psychedelic rock band in the form of one guy called Kevin Parker (although, when he performs live or wants to know how it sounds live in the studio, he is accompanied by a few band members). Parker plays all the instruments, writes all the songs, and produces all of them too. Tame Impala has been described as "a scientific experiment where, in an alternate timeline, John Lennon in 1966 decided to join Pink Floyd". There are 4 albums; the first two (Innerspeaker and Lonerism) are firmly in the 'neo-psychedelic rock' category whereas the latter two albums (Currents and The Slow Rush) are closer to disco/psychedelic pop. 'Elephant' is from Lonerism and is somewhat of an anomaly in their music as it is much bluesier than their usual songs. For a taste of each album I recommend checking out 'Feels Like We Only Go Backwards', 'Why Won't You Make Up Your Mind?', 'The Less I Know the Better', and 'Is It True?'.

YAASS! Stoked you’re checking out Tame Impala! This track is kind of like NIN’s Closer in that it’s kind of a forward track but not that representative of his sound. Fortunately almost any track by this guy is sheer genius. For similar psychedelic rock see the rest of Lonerism and Innerspeaker, for his more clubby sound see Currents and Slow Rush. Highest recommended track for me is The Less I Know the Better (but just show the album cover to avoid the long, SNFW intro on the video). Cheers!

Love your videos. when i watched the first few it sometimes bugged me when you would say 'I don't wanna go too far in depth, as a composer i dont want to demystify anything for the general listener', which i understood why 100%. But it doesnt bug me now because as a non general listener and as a musician i wanted the more in depth stuff straight away, but since i'm not getting it it's making me research the stuff more and actually learn it, so for that I thank you!!

Just gonna comment, I really think you should try out the band Elder. I think it's right up your alley in terms of layering and instrumentation on the last two big albums (Reflections of a floating world and Omens) and it's love to see you look into them and talk about it!

This gonna be one of those weird comments. Not my kind of music, however I love seeing Geebz react to all sorts of music, despite if it speaks to me or not. Kevin is one talented dude, I can't fault the talent at show.

Every new track you just get me to remember super awesome random stuff. You would surely love "and so i watch you from afar". Also there was an interesting project from sean lennon "ghost of a saber tooth tiger"

Now you're gravitating towards some Psych rock perhaps you'd like to hear a band from the same place as Tame Impala, called "Psychedelic Porn Crumpets" - "Found God in a Tomato" + "And the Addled Abstract of Being" would be my suggestions Awwright

I remember hearing this on the radio, while driving around Austin, Texas in spring / summer 2016, and thinking it sounds like the Beatles, if they stayed together into the 70s, got into heavy psychedelic blues and early metal, and went in that direction. They had at least a little of that in them, as demonstrated by songs like "Revolution" and "Helter Skelter". This is what they'd sound like, circa 1972-75, with John Lennon telling the music press, "yeah, we've been really vibing on this heavy new stuff coming out of Birmingham, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and that."

Geebz, thanks for doing this band as I have requested them before. I feel like they will be a must continuing forward. They are one of the biggest acts in the world rn. The music is all written, produced, and engineered by a single Australian man, Kevin Parker. Diverse range of music that all falls under the psychedelic genre. Some great songs I think you'd dig is let it happen (studio version), apocalypse dreams, posthumous forgiveness, the less I know the better, mind mischief, lucidity, the list just goes on

Great reaction again dude! Feels Like We Only Go Backwards I think is one of the best "rock" songs of the past 20 years. But can't go wrong with other suggestions here. The Less I Know The Better and Alter Ego I would also start with. Early albums more psychedelic and rock-y, later albums more pop-y/dance-y.

OMG please do Let It Happen! Once you enter this rabbit hole you won't leave. My kids introduced me to the genius of Kevin Parker last year and I've been addicted ever since. He actually lied to his record label and said it was a full band in order to get his deal. Every instrument is performed by him in the studio versions, but his live band is incredible too.
