@@ScottLee-xw8vm we are talking about the Dutch united East Indian Company, which had all to do with Indonesia, South-Africa (Cape Town) and some trading places on the Indian coast. The VOC was an independent company, which stakeholders were mostly Dutch merchants, and they got a degree to hold the peace at the places where they were. For this they had a private army in which the Dutch government had nothing to say. In the end the company went bankrupt but before that a lot of the company was changed to the hands of the Dutch government. So this has nothing to do with India.

AMERICA is the continent which is correct for history and geography. Amerigo Vespucci the Italian navigator at the service of Spain, (the first to recognize the existence of a new world). I NEVER explore North America. And Brazil was the first region of planet Earth to legitimately receive the name of AMERICA, in 1507 by European cartographers officially. (The documents are official). Therefore a country called the United States has nothing to do with the name AMERICA. Taking / Misappropriating the name of the continent cannot change history as they (the North Americans) did in 1776. The real story is: America has been the continent (just the continent) and the region of Brazil since 1507, is the first AMERICA.

For some reason when the European countries started taking off, the Ottoman Empire was completely left behind. But Turkey is now modernized and has a fully literate population, so it should be poised for strong economic growth.

India’s Nadir: 1990, when it steadily falls down the list over the previous decades and then drops off entirely. But by 2024, it has climbed back to #5! China’s Nadir: 1980, when it falls to being only the 12th largest economy in the world.

I can never understand why after several years of spending everything they had on the first war, Germany (that was already at war against France, Russia and the UK fighting them virtually alone) decided that it would be a good idea to get in a war with the country with the biggest GDP at the time and that had more than twice the population of Germany. And then again, in WWII. Japan having a third of the population and a third of the navy size that the US had at the time. And look at the difference in GDP at the time of Pearl Harbour, gigantic. A country exhausted after many years of war against China and other countries in the pacific. Despite all that, they decided that it was a good idea to attack somebody so much stronger than them in every possible way. They gave the US the position of the new ruler of the world on a silver platter. They all got weaker with those wars while the US got stronger while being neutral (even though the US was already the strongest) and then they entered near the end and saved the day both times earning all the thanks from one side and all the sorrys from the other. Outstanding move!

India was historically known for its major contribution to the world's GDP, accounting for approximately 30% of the global economy around the early 18th century. Known as the "Golden Sparrow," India was a center of wealth, culture, and advanced civilization. The combined GDP of several contemporary countries did not match India's economic strength at its peak. This period of prosperity began to decline with the arrival of British and other foreign invaders, particularly during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The invasions and subsequent colonial rule, starting with the establishment of the British East India Company's rule in 1757 after the Battle of Plassey, led to significant plundering and destruction of India's wealth, infrastructure, and cultural heritage. This period marked a drastic shift in India's economic status and global influence, culminating in the formal establishment of British Raj in 1858.

-Joseon starts as #13 in 1600, falls off the list in 1630, then reappears as South Korea in 1989. -Japan is the best one to watch. It never fell off the lost, but Its nadir was in the late 18th century, when it fell to #14. -The Soviet Union just goes completely to pieces in the 1980s, and Russia can’t seem to climb back to the #5 or #4 position it had held for hundreds of years prior to the formation of the Soviet Union. -The Ottoman Empire just falls and falls and falls….
