Welcome to Day 6 of our "7 Days to Learn Chinese Pinyin". In this video, I demonstrate to you all exiting Chinese Pronunciation (all possible pinyin syllables) with four tones. If you are new to Chinese, you can use this video as ultimate Chinese pronunciation practice material. Tones are too included to emphasize the melody within four tones so that it would be easier for beginners to get used to and better at tones in Mandarin Chinese.
Here I would like to share three pinyin tables you can find online and use for free (with my opinions of their pros). All these pinyin tables include audio recordings.
1. ChinesePod:
chinesepod.com... (Links to an external site.)
Pros: this pinyin chart groups all the pinyin syllables into sections by certain similarity
2. Arch Chinese:
www.archchines... (Links to an external site.)
Pros: Some pinyin syllables with certain tones do not exist in Mandarin Chinese. For example, le with third tone does not exits in Mandarin Chinese. Arch Chinese excludes pronunciation like this.
3. Yoyo Chinese:
www.yoyochines...
Pros: Yoyo Chinese include instructional videos for the pinyin syllables that are difficult to pronounce for Chinese learners.

For me I definitely find the -e group as well as those special ones with -i and all the ones with -ong the most difficult as these vowel sounds are not found in my native language and whenever I try to make them they just blend in together. Also, syllables with the retroflexes and j, q and x
@keystochinese0921
@keystochinese0921 8 ай бұрын
The -ang, -eng, and -ong can be challenging for some Chinese natives too cause Mandarin Chinese is based on northern dialect and I find it unclearly pronounced by some from the south. J, q, and x will come over time. Just keep practicing. My students like to rap repeatedly ji, qi, xi to make it fun and emphasize them in the same time.

I don´t learn Chinese (yet), just curious - does the third tone have to be as low as you pronounce it, or is the pronunciation ok as long as it goes down-up? Great video by the way, I think this is very helpful to immerse oneself with the basic word stems.
@keystochinese0921
@keystochinese0921 4 ай бұрын
Thank you for your question. Actually when we speak, it doesn’t sound as low and when the third tone is in the middle of the sentence, the going up part can be admitted so that the flow is smoother. When a word consists of two third tones, the first third tone automatically becomes second tone. You can find tone related information in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6O1ZWupnbh6pJIsi=Lhhn-aibO9oogfhr

Savannah, I thought I’d share with you how I have been using your videos. 24 July 2021 I started a daily drill of going through your PinYin Chart with me repeating all four tones. 4 August I included your Tone Combos as a part of my daily drill. 13 August suddenly I am able to hear the clear differences between the tones and able to voice them them as well! 16 August I also included your Differentiate Similar Pronunciations in my daily drill - that's a nice touch! Today, 28 August 2021 I continue my daily drill with all three videos. I increasingly hear more in the sounds and so am able to hone my pronunciation. I think from this daily drill I should be able to establish a solid foundation for my speaking, so I intend to continue it a while longer. My language exchange partner has noticed a stepped improvement in my speech. I cannot thank you enough for your hard and skillful work. It’s much appreciated. And it's free. Thank you! And good luck in your teaching career!

@@Furina_-_De_-_Cuntaine My sounds and tones continue to progress. Occasionally, however, like today, I come back and repeat this chart to fine-tune my pronunciation. But, for sometime now, I’ve increased the playback speed to 1.5 because I find the ‘normal’ speed much too slow and I find 1.5 about right. When I first started I thought normal speed was so fast. In Republic of China Taiwan they teach you 注音符號 and standard characters, while in Communist China you can only learn weird broken characters and English letters, and they claim it's "real" Chinese lol.
@keystochinese0921
@keystochinese0921 8 ай бұрын
Honestly 注音 and pinyin function the same. As long as it helps learning, people choose whichever comes in handy. Regarding characters, I wish China taught traditional characters. But if people want to learn calligraphy, it’s always traditional characters. However I don’t consider them broken characters, they got simplified for a reason (to help increase literacy) and with certain rules set by linguists.

I just started like 2 weeks ago, and most has been learning the radicals to notice what's different from one character to another... The explanations of the pinyin have been very confusing until this video. I can't tell apart c from z or ch from zh, but it's OK for a first day. I'll need to watch a specific video on those sounds and the tongue position I guess... For the tones, I hope my attention will turn into it once the basic sounds start to sound like really basic. Maybe in a few weeks, hehe Xiexie!

Laoshi, may i ask, why "in" i hear at other youtube is sound like "ing" in english?
@keystochinese0921
@keystochinese0921 Жыл бұрын
Sometimes people from southern China may pronounce in and ing differently from northern Chinese people. My mom's best friend from Sichuan has 玲ling (second tone) in her name but she always pronounces it as lin(second tone). This is usually common for older generation considering mandarin Chinese (based on northern dialec) was not taught well in some areas. Also, it may sound different when it is spoken fast. The reality is that you want to use the language in real world which means you need to understand people with slight accent (affected by their regional dialect), so I would recommend having input from different sources such as tv shows, reality shows, movies, etc. When you get more comfortable with the pronunciation, you will still understand it even though it may be pronounced slightly different among people. When my English was not very good, I found it very very difficult understanding British English (I watch a lot of American TV shows, so I was used to American accent), BUT after I got much better at English, I realized not only could I understand American TV shows better but I also understand a lot more British English! It only takes effort and time. Good luck to you! Let me know if you have any questions. I am more than happy to help.
