Interesting product, very interesting channel with its own focus! I don't usually like unboxing videos at all. But in this case it is clearly different, because the highly competent presentation really makes sense with the product!

The only unboxing video I will watch is where they focus on the box and toss the product promptly. While this did unbox, the majority of the video was on functionality, which is great!

Hi...thanks for your videos. I've watched several vids about Cobo/Keystone. My problem is that I have several paper wallets created back in 2018. I want to import the private keys to my Trezor or Keystone (which I have not purchased, yet). So, the question is this: can I simply scan the private keys on the paper wallets with the Cobo/Keystone. Then confirm the keys with the Cobo/Keystone app. All the other software I've tried for importing private keys requires that I be online... I've watched your videos regarding sweeping paper wallets 3 or 4 times and I still get lost in the air gap process...you present your info very very fast. I'm a little slow in the head these days! Thanks for your input.

You can't really import individual private keys from paper wallets like that with the hardware wallets you mentioned. If the process in my offline sign video is too much, you should check out my video on my the Ellipal, it's not a great wallet overall, but it is the only one which makes it easy to import loose private keys and offline sign.

I have the old Cobo, excellent premium product (in my opinion just as secure as ledger but by far better build quality). After the rebrand I chose to get the Keystone, as you know they are giving 50% off for ex Cobo customers. Thanks for the video.

So when you setup the keystone MetaMask fork are you essentially setting up a new ethereum address? It doesn’t connect to your current MetaMask? So how I understand it you then have to send your funds from your current MetaMask to your keystone fork address? Not a lot of information on this on their end
@CryptoGuide
@CryptoGuide 2 жыл бұрын
Basically it is just using the same eth address that is associated with your keystone. The difference between their fork and normal Metamask is that Metamask normally has at least one software wallet account as well as any other hardware ones that you have imported. (The Keystone one is hardware only)

Is it possible to easily recover all your coins if the hardware breaks and there's no way to get another device? If that is possible I'll feel safe to put my long term hodl coins in it. Thanks brother

Keystone follows the BIP39/44 standards well, so you can use the seed to recover using another hardware/software wallet without any issue.

Does this let you import BTC with multiple addresses from a Ledger Nano X? With the old Cobo Vault, it would only display one of the addresses.
@CryptoGuide
@CryptoGuide 3 жыл бұрын
You can manually generate as many addresses as you like, you could do this with the Cobo too. If you are running the BTC only firmware it will also handle this automatically if used with something like Electrum.

I would need to double check it from memory they are just treating the rolls as hex which is fairly common. (And not an issue, as the entropy per roll doesn't change, just how you are presenting it)

@@CryptoGuide so I'm guessing the hardware wallet doesn't know how much BTC you have?

Your hard wallet never had any knowledge of your balances and for those wallets that show this, it's purely decorative (and shouldn't be trusted) and has no impact on signing transactions.

What do you think of just storing bitcoin in an Electrum wallet? Is that not safe enough? I mean it's not connected to the internet when you access it.
@CryptoGuide
@CryptoGuide 2 жыл бұрын
So do you mean only using Electrum totally offline in Tails Linux and offline signing transactions? If so that's fine... If you mean using Electrum as a software wallet in your normal desktop environment then that's really insecure, but that's fine as long as you are only storing small amounts.

Oh and unrelated to my other question, but any reason you can think of to not use an existing Cobo Pro with Bitcoin only firmware going forward, and a new Keystone for other coins? Best of both words, better than the mostly garbage (but almost free!) SafePal I snagged, which is okay when it works, but that is far from a regular occurrence.

Well, if you can go Bitcoin only there’s a much better option: ColdCard
@jpp59
@jpp59 3 жыл бұрын
Lack of update on a airgapped device is not an issue. The only issue you will have if when you update companion apps, they might not recognize it anymore (bluewallet for example you have to go in bluewallet 's settings and force the use of v1 qrcode)
@jpp59
@jpp59 3 жыл бұрын
@@martinlutherkingjr.5582 disagree, with coldcard it is not 100% airgapped, you still need to use a sdcard
@hireahitCA
@hireahitCA 3 жыл бұрын
I’m already on Bitcoin only, and ColdCard requires a SD card which is a dealbreaker. I’m trying to device about going forward. Hardware hopefully remains functional longer without updates, but if BlueWallet drops support for the specific QR codes? Or if a vulnerability is discovered? There are a few risks, although reasonably minimal.

@@hireahitCA vulnerability on the cobo vault would be finding a way to dump/extract seed from the secure element (requiring opening it), no software could fix that. And would still be difficult to exploit (maiden attack). Anyway you have the bip39 phrases as a backup so no worries...

The concept is really cool but the firmware doesn’t always update correctly. The first time I updated I had to re-update several times before it accepted. Just recently I sent $300 to my wallet and it didn’t send correctly and they will not refund me even though i sent to the correct adress.
@CryptoGuide
@CryptoGuide 3 жыл бұрын
Strange that the firmware update had issues, I have done a bunch of updates and never had a problem. Makes me wonder if your SD card is dodgy. In terms of having and issue sending funds to the device, what does this actually mean. Did you send the funds on the wrong chain? Who are you asking for a refund? (and why) When you control the private keys is pretty difficult to actually mess up receiving funds in a way where you actually lose finds, so just curious what you did as it's likely a straightforward recovery.
