Prepping For Brutus - Shark Week 2017

It's been a rough few trips out to the reef edge so I needed some drag ripping action. Nothing beats a big Barracuda or a jumping flipping Blacktip Shark.

I used to fish from my Kayak when I was a new doctor in Padre Island and caught lots of big redfish, speckled trout, flounders, sting rays etc. then I moved to the US Virgin Islands and caught lots of small sharks, barracudas, Bonita’s or whatever was “biting” that day. I love the stability of your kayak. I was always nervous that I would catch something too big and it would flip me over. You solved my problem. I wish I would have met you 10 years ago. Steve, have you ever considered using the "coffee colored" wire on your 'cuda and shark rigs, instead of the bright stainless? It would be interesting to see if you experience more action by going that route.

I don’t understand how you just throw a mullet out or a jack, and hook up to sharks immediately, I’m going to key colony late March, I am renting a kayak for the week and I hope I have as much luck as you seem to have, is it the same in key colony like t is in your videos? Any tips? Thanks!

if your going for brutus you should probably use 3 to 4 feet of wire. Also having staggered hooks might help

You need bigger rigs for sharks like that use a 9/0 hook or bigger and 180lb wire leader but good stuff tho keep it up
