@RikkiTikkiTavi2907 жыл бұрын
Steve, I'm all for targeting sharks for fun, but you really have to start using heavier mono and wire if you plan on fishing for them exclusively. Not so cool to just leave the hooks and line trailing one around for months when the leader sections clearly aren't heavy enough. Should be tarpon class at least and probably even heavier since blacktips and spinners frequently wrap the line around themselves when jumping. Have had them snap 300lb mono before on a jump. Not trying to be too critical, but sharks already get a raw enough deal and all the viewers should be shown how to have fun without leaving countless hooks in fish they never had a chance of landing.
@RikkiTikkiTavi2907 жыл бұрын
I realize it's a bit more expensive and that you have to think about safety threshold because you're on a yak, but snapping off shark after shark rubs me the wrong way. A big offshore style dehooker rod would help a lot with the safety aspect.
@tesilential7 жыл бұрын
The hooks rust out in a day or two. I caught a 38" snook with a brand new hook and leader in it mouth, must have been hooked that day or the previous. I removed the hook and leader and kept as a memento but it rusted literally 2 days later and crumbled away.
@RikkiTikkiTavi2907 жыл бұрын
Hooks DO NOT rust out in a day or two. That is a gross misconception by many anglers. Steve himself did a video on that and if i remember correctly, at several months time the hooks were still intact. It takes months for hooks to rust out. In addition, the bigger the hook the longer it takes. I used to shark fish almost exclusively from the beach where I live and would use at least a 10/0 circle hook, # 9 wire+, and 5-10 feet of 200lb+ mono. Only had one monster bull swallow a hook, and broke off maybe 3-4 fish.
@brisbxng-75016 жыл бұрын
Easy to catch a shark on a proper setup, takes more skill to land on something alot lighter. That's just me

If it helps, when I'm sharking with my spinning real I tie on a 10+ foot castable shock leader (at least 100# test, FG knot) that may help with the break offs. I bet you are getting tail whip on your line. Keep up the great work and the great vids. Love them!!!
