@@manmarvel didn't usually put sand in. Rolled oats, thawed block chum and a little squirt of menhaden oil if you want to jazz it up a bit. If water is crystal clear, lighter leader till you get the bite back. They are smart and can be leader shy

Now I have to go find 3 other videos you mentioned in this, types of chum, types of chum nets how to make chum balls…. Smart way to get those numbers up. Literally wasted the first 5 minutes here to. Oh my free tip: in the slop/soup mix a half gallon of pogie oil or simple peanut oil into it.

Hi Steve, I'm taking my boat to the Keys for vacation fishing for the first time next week, so this is very helpful! Good info on chumming, but what bait should I use for this scenario to flat line out to the Yellow Tail? Cut menhaden?

We used glass minnows AKA mahua in the keys. 3 on the hook 1st one through the eyes, turn and back through the body next 2 through the eye sockets and drift it back in the chum line same speed as the rest of the chum. This hides the hook and is a natural prey item for yellowtail. Toss 2-3 in along with your baited hook and wait for the line to start ripping off the reel

if you do not want to use sand because of the damage it could do, could you use weights to lower the chum container down to the bottom then gradually bring it up to provide that profile through the water? Or something similar to what they do with drop stone fishing in the pacific?
