I love watching people listen to Pink Floyd for the first time. I wish I could hear them again for the first time. You did it right. Listen to the studio album in its entirety, with only occasional pauses. Later, you can listen to live versions. They are fun, too, to see all the light show and the psychedelic stage show, and to see how relatively simply they are playing stuff that sounds so incredibly complex. But start with full studio albums, and don't pause constantly. You did it right. Now go back and listen again without the camera, lights lowered, and with the lyrics in front of you. Just for you. Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed that.

The album "Wish You Were Here" not the single track. The album is beautiful and dedicated to Syd Barrett, founding band member who had dropped out of the band a few years earlier suffering severe mental health issues and the effects of drug abuse. Syd was dearly loved and album celebrates his genius while mourning the fact he's no longer in the band. During recording a bald fat man with shaved off eyebrows walked into the recording studio. it took several minutes before they realised this was their old dear friend Syd. Roger Waters broke down and cried when he realised what Syd had become.

She actually did a few takes and they edited them together to gat that fantastic final result. But she did just improvise all of it off the top of her head. It's called the "Gilmour effect". The whole point of their music is to take you away. You can be "un-stoned" and this music will take you there anyway. They are the masters of psychedelic rock. Their first album was being recorded right next door to the Beatles recording Sgt. Pepper, so they were always surrounded by good people and luck in the beginning. Their band founder and leader ,Syd Barrett, by 1969 had slipped into mental oblivion from mental issues and continuous high doses of LSD. He wandered out of the band, and replaced by school mate and friend, David Gilmour on lead guitar and about half the vocals. His solos, which he composes by singing them first without the guitar, then applying that to the strings. That comforting style, draws people in and puts you on his same "wave length".

Pink Floyd ... in 1964 a few people came together in England ... like the biggest lottery win in history. Widely considered the greatest band of all time, definitve the biggest Live-band of all time, David Gilmour often considered the greatest guitarist of all time. And this album is the fourth best selling album of all time in music-history. Gilmour, aged 78, is touring the U.S. right now with a brandnew album plus Floyd-standards. Next week - first week of November 2024 - he´s in New York, five times Madison Square Garden, sold out.

Pink Floyd is most definitely a band, and not a person. Lead guitar & most the lead vocals done by David Gilmour. Bass guitar and lead vocals on "Brain Damage" is Roger Waters. Keyboardist is Richard "Rick" Wright. Percussionist/drummer is Nick Mason. Saxophonist is Dick Parry. Various female background singers are also used, most notably Clare Torry, who sang the iconic solo on the song "The Great Gig in the Sky." Album recording engineer was Alan Parsons, whose contributions to this album cannot be overstated.

They were a British band formed in 1965: Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright (earlier Syd Barrett). Great to see young people appreciating the music we grew up on. Pink Floyd is untouchable. David Gilmour on guitar, Dick Parry on sax. Also, people at the recording studio were asked random questions and they answered them; that was the people you hear talking in the songs. btw, I like the message on your t-shirt!

New sub here, a very genuine reaction! I believe you started off right by listening to the dark side first. It’s the first of the “big 4” albums from them. Each of these albums is a concept album meaning the album tells a story and each song is like a chapter of that story. I believe you should continue going in order of the “big 4”. The next in order is Wish you Were here, followed by Animals, followed by The Wall. All of them masterpieces. I’ll watch every reaction. You do it the right way.
