I had a paradise male Betta, his name was Nebula. I went ahead and got some albino corydoras, threw them into the bigger tank. Left them in there for a few weeks for quarantine. Neb was in a separate tank, his own quarantine tank. When he was finally ready to go into his real home with the Cory's, he was terrified. He dived down and hid in the corner for an hour. That is, until the corydoras came swimming over to him, in a school. I swear they were going over there to introduce themselves and reassure him that they weren't going to hurt him. When I tell you my betta got along famously with his corydora comrades, I'm not kidding. He LOVED having them in the tank. I would feed Neb first, then drop in the sinking pellets. Neb would always shoot down to the Cory's while they were eating just like "what are you guys having tonight?" It was literally the cutest thing ever, and those initial fish got me hooked in the hobby.

Story time. Ryukin. I tried to do a coldwater asian tank that included many different types of fancy goldfish. The Ryukin will definitely scarf up fish small enough to fit in their mouth. I can't speak for all goldfish, but that one in particular needs to be kept with fish big enough not to be eaten.

I think it might be a goldfish thing. My comet goldfish eats anything and I mean anything that will fit in his mouth. Smaller fish (he's eaten rasboras, tetras, guppies) he will eat full frozen food and makes sure no one else gets it lol I've seen him eat rocks and algae wafers whole. Goldfish are just cute fatties lol

Cory’s are fantastic! I have 17 in one tank just so I can see different varieties, Shrimp are awesome little pieces to add to a nano tank and even I got a breeding group going on right now! Goldfish are the most underrated and best all round fish there is! They are all communal and need only for you to feed them and do water changes. Plus feeding time is like being greeted by a dozen mouths all smacking for some more food! Danios I have zero experience with but the worst I’ve ever heard is that they can be a bit dartish meaning they could stress out other fish, but they are TINY, about 1.25 inches at the most! Geos are noble creatures but they need the right environment and can be mixed with other South Americans but not Oscar’s typically, guaranteed clean substrate with these sand movers, Discus I love but I don’t have the water or the right tank for them, but definitely one of the most eye catching fish there is 😍 Guppies are beautiful but they are cannibals, I blamed an angelfish for fin nipping but after I pulled the angel, the fin nippage got worse not better, Sorry for my 2 cents just wanted to write this am, love you guys and stay happy and healthy 😊❤️

So about the ghost shrimp with the goldfish. I have a 75 gallon planted aquarium with 3 feeder fish that I purchased from PetSmart because I wanted to give them a better life. I’d figure I would get some ghost shrimp too because I thought they would be a good addition to the tank. Let’s just say I’ve never seen goldfish go so crazy about wanting to eat them as soon as they hit the water. They got one of them and I netted the rest of them and moved them to a different tank so that they wouldn’t disappear over night.

I’ve had to keep him isolated in a planted jar and he acts just like a betta, demanding food, jumping at my finger, and not scared in the least of being alone like a typical endler would. Such a mad lad, I wonder if it’s possible for fish to have dementia or whatnot 😅🤔

I wanted to put some more fish in the tank so I bought 6 baby goldfish. Well, a few days later there were only three and a few days later, there were none. I didn't catch the culprit in the act. I had to wait until he finally died to get new fish, which I now have for four and a half years.

Want some other heartbreak free Cichlid choices? [1] Anomalochromis thomasi. Possibly THE true pacifist Cichlid, and doesn't even turn nasty at breeding time, but colours up beautifully for the occasion. [2] Laetacara curviceps. Another mellow Cichlid. [3] Cleithracara maronii. Want something a bit bigger than the previous two? Keyhole Cichlids are again well behaved, but will suit someone who wants a Cichlid companion for Tetras bigger than Lemon Tetras, or for Scissortail Rasboras. Oh, and if you're looking for a stand out big fish for your 150 gallon or above that has a mellow temperament, try Moonlight Gouramis. Which will team up nicely with a range of other big, sedately moving and mellow fish in your catering sized aquarium. :)

Barbs you need to use caution with....yes, most times they bicker amongst themselves....but you put barbs in with any fancy finned fish, they are going to be harassed, relentlessly. Their behavior resembles cichlids more than tetras, and to label them as semi aggressive can be a bit of an understatement in certain cases. They can also get quite a bit larger than what you typically see them sold as. Take caution if you've got mellow, chilled out fish....On the plus side, theyre always active and make a tank exciting, as healthy barbs are also one of the most stunning fish to observe.

Some smaller geos like the tapajos can be more on the peaceful side but the geophagus brasiliensis pictured in your thumbnail is a larger aggressive geophagus. In short do your research when buying geophagus they aren’t all peaceful

Not exactly on the goldfish- in six grade my homeroom teacher decided to mix comet and ryukin goldfish into a 55g tank that had assorted tetras and other community fish including a betta and that betta was the first one those goldfish tore apart.... yes, tore apart within a day of being introduced into the tank. They slowly over the next couple weeks killed about every fish in that tank. I mentioned to him the day he brought them in not to mix them, he just laughed and three them in. So yes, goldfish can be aggressive towards others under the wrong circumstances.

What about tetras? I've had 3 ember and 3 black emperor tetras in a 9 gallon with my betta "Nikolai". The embers basically act like they don't exist because they're so docile. The emperors aren't aggressive, but the dominant male likes to hang around Nikolai pretty much all day basically checking him out. It seems about an hour before my lights go out, Nicolai gets annoyed with the attention and decides to flare his gills and chase the bigger emperor fish. At first it was alarming, seeing him try to attack the other fish… Now I'm not really that worried because the other fish are so much faster. Still, I wonder what triggers him to get so upset all of a sudden after being so docile all day long. Sorry for the super long comment!

Hey, I have just set up a brand new 5 gallon/20 litre tank and I was wondering how many Neon Tetras can i put with a Betta fish. I have seen a lot of debate on the internet, some say it'll be fine but others say absolutely not, nothing under 15 gallons is suitable for the two species of fish. I am very confused and I don't want to harm any of the fish as this is my first experience with fish and the tank won't be at my house. Also we will only be able to clean the tank every two weeks, so i don't want to make a heavy bioload on the tank. If the two species in a 5 gallon tank can't be done, how many neons could i put in the tank by themselves?
