SRK was not ashamed of Kajol lol. That was playful bickering, to show that they've a friendly relationship, because she's into customs and traditions and he's not as much, and so they bicker over that. Plus she's loud mouthed and so he tries to reign her in because he wants to integrate in the British society so he's willing to adopt mannerisms, while she wants to retain her Indian-ness. It was meant to be funny while indicating the character traits of both. It wasn't trying to show that he's ashamed of her. And the scene where they tell each other that "I don't like you" is actually a call-back to 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', another SRK-Kajol film, directed by Johar. It wasn't meant to be taken that seriously. I think you got this one wrong Jaby.

You're judging SRK's acting from a western point-of-view & western culture is not melodramatic. India as a culture is melo-dramatic so SRK's acting is good. His acting reflects the culture.
@mansis56223 жыл бұрын
Srk's acting is melodramatic even in Indian context. He is, for most of the time, over the board. He had once shuddered while "kkkkkiran" and that was eons back. That kind of continued almost everytime he's sad or mad. Nothing against SRK.. loved him in My name is Khan.
@Aryan_editK3 жыл бұрын
@@mansis5622, I mean, that's the point. Indians are melodramatic which is why his acting is also like that. Indians like it because that's just how we are. We are emotional & loud & expressive. It's natural for us to be that way. That's why SRK acts that way & also because the movie's genre is also similar. Westerners don't like this acting style because they think it's unnatural to be that way.
@Aryan_editK3 жыл бұрын
@@mansis5622, that "Kkkkiran" is iconic. People remember is even after decades. Also, SRK acting in that movie (Darr) as a psychopath was fantastic. That's how psychopaths are - quiet in front of people & crazy/loud when they are alone.
@mansis56223 жыл бұрын
@@Aryan_editK No denial to the emotional part. We go over board with our emotions too and cinema is reflective of that (or.. maybe vice versa). What SRK has done in K3G, and in almost all the other movies, was appreciated by masses back then. We are guilty of enjoying these growing up as well (and still are taken back in the time by some movies). The thing is, as an audience our taste has evolved. The very reason why sometimes we cringe at stuff that once made a huge deal. The very reason why massy movies are rarely critically acclaimed. The very reason why many of SRK's movies tank at box office today. Now what westerners see, echoes our evolved take at sentiments/drama. No denial some of the classics are classics because of those signature acting styles but I guess what I am getting to is, things have pretty much changed in the past decade or so. Nevertheless, we love Bollywood dil se :)
@Aryan_editK3 жыл бұрын
@@mansis5622, I agree it's evolving but that "emotionality" is still there. Even today the recent biggest blockbusters (2019/pre-pandemic) are movies like War, Total Dhamaal, Good News, & Uri which are totally "Bollywood-like". Personally, I embrace the emotionality/melodrama in our movies & I am definitely proud of it because it's just the kind of people we are as Indians, so I don't find it as guilty pleasure. I just watched Rang De Basanti (which is Bollywood-like) last night & we can definitely make such fastastic movies with our essence of emotionality in it, without being "Hollywood-like" (less melodramatic).

Indian storytelling has a lot of stuff drawn from Indian epics Ramayana and Mahabharata. You'll find their themes and subplots and moral compass everywhere. The dutiful son being exiled due to disagreement and yet graciously obeys his father, the devoted younger brother who's more practical and fights for his brother , the desire within family to have the older , ideal son back ....it's all very Ramayana.

For someone who is now watching Indian films for a few years, Jabby's aesthetic handicap - relative to melodrama as an art form- is truly startling. Well traditionally father held god like position, his words were final. His ego supreme, deliberately nurtured or carried forward . Next, watch a blockbuster comedy like Herapheri or Hungama or Hulchul or De dana dan or Ishq or Golmaal

I don't think comedy movies subtitles will not so good to understand but they can go with phir hera pheri..

+1 for Hera Pheri

Not a fan of Ishq. The first half is amazing and the second is equally dragging and over-dramatic.
@ananddarnal67023 жыл бұрын
I think they can go with hungama which is more appealing to wider audience, when compared with phir Hera pheri

Finally! ❤️ I was waiting yesterday to see part 3 and review. Like you guys, I also didn't grow up watching these because I'm from Kerala and grew up watching Malayalam movies. After I learnt Hindi and decided to watch this movie, I was afraid that I wouldn't share the same emotions as those who grew up watching this. Guess what, I was wrong! These movies are called classics for a reason ❤️. Please do more reactions on classic Indian movies ❤️

About the National Anthem, it was written at the time of British Rule over India, so english people most probably would know that it's our national anthem. It has also recently come to knowledge that it was composed and sung to George V who visited India at the time.

Achara is correct. The music is so nice, it made them emotional without understanding the language. The theme song is so emotional and classic because it's sung by the living legend Lata Mangeshkar ji and the screen presence of Jaya ji made it bit too emotional 😌💘. Every Indian can get it 💕

I grew up with this movie so it's nostalgia watching it, but there are definitely parts that cause major cringe and I have to skip. I still love it because it's such a rollercoaster lol I have to add that I think most Indians watching it wouldn't feel as you did about Rahul and Anjali's relationship in the second half. It was actually really playful and sweet, like they're also best friends. I think a big "Anjali, you mean so much to me" scene would have been kind of weird and unnecessary. That being said, I wouldn't have objected to more scenes with the two of them. No such thing as too much SRK and Kajol.
