Poo is cringy but that’s the point. The character of Pooja who has come from pretty humble beginnings is going to be insecure in London, if you remember she was made fun of by Rohan’s friends for her style and personality. So it wouldn’t be surprising if she created the Poo persona to fit in. We see this facade break when she recognises Rohan and speaks to him normally. Now whether KJO meant for this to happen or not is a different story.

This is a very nuanced assessment of the character. Her projection vs who she really is. I hope KJO meant it!

One thing no one talks about. K3g normalises adoption. Srk was the adopted son of the super-rich raichand family. Hrithik is the biological son. But there is no one dialogue on khoon khoon hota hai. Srk is always the elder son and elder brother

@@shagunmalhotra2904 yes, I remember. And raichand is the villain at that point. But no other character supports the statement. Raichand never brings it up again. The point is this, that the older son is adopted but he has the first right as heir, is the mother's favourite son, is the darling of the older generation and the hero of the biological son of the family. This is rarely seen. Even in Gulmohur, 2023, manoj bajpayee is adopted and his father doesn't leave him the house in his will.

I believe that K3G would still have been a huge blockbuster because of its stupendous soundtrack. Till this day, K3G songs are enjoyed immensely even by non Indians. K3G songs are probably the most cherished and it won't be wrong to say that they are the most iconic Bollywood songs. Be it Suraj Hua Madham, Bole Chudian, Keh Do Na and Shava Shava. Back in those days as a kid when I went shopping with my parents, sherwanis were all sold out because of Bole Chudian. No party or function would be complete without K3G songs and even non Indians love them. The same goes for KKHH, which is also remembered because of its title track song which continues to be a rage till this day. It's sad that Bollywood film songs no longer have that kind of global impact with K3G and KKHH did.

In contemporary times, it may be perceived as an unpopular opinion, yet I believe that an actor's real-life persona significantly influences the box office performance of their movies. Factors such as their behind-the-scenes personality, social media presence, and political viewpoints now carry substantial weight, whereas a decade ago, we scarcely paid attention to these aspects.

I don't feel the actors were overacting but the whole movie was melodramatic and so did the actors. The trio pairs chemistry was magnetic and all characters understood their part. So even though it was melodramatic, it gave good memories due to the performances, choreography and the capture of the whole film makes it iconic. At that time it worked out and that's why it became iconic, specially the character poo.

Believe me this movie will have a different meaning each time you see it (over the course of years). Its a dish which tastes different with every bite! K3G has always been a film I watched with my family, we may make fun of it, but somewhere we still resonate with it. Like, the huge scale of production and the huge sets which scream of the Raichands' wealth may make them seem out of touch, but moments like a parent claiming to have complete control of the direction of a child's life, of women in a loving household having no voice of their own - it resonates so much. I still remember my grandmother talking of how this would be the case for several families. Its so weird how a movie that keeps the reality suspended should be able to depict such emotions. Also, the clear class divide that can be seen in Shava Shava I feel is seldom talked about. I truly think that the filmography of the song was a masterpiece. Like an anglicised version for the Raichands and a more rooted in Indian version for the Chandni Chowk version - it truly brings about the difference so beautifully.

You forgot to mention RAAZ in the line of hits of 2002-2003. I clearly remember around June to August gaddar and lagaan released simultaneously and I preferred to watch gaddar over lagaan 100 times in theatres, on cable TV and tv channels whenever both of them are telecasts together And as a result after 18 years I watched lagaan finally. Same case was with k3g and raaj. Me and my younger brother always preferred raaz over k3g. Not 100 times but atleast 10 times and finally after 2 years we got to watch k3g. Obviously it was srk, kajol and abs' movie and we can not miss that for so long. And all of the songs were favourite of that generation children, teenagers and youngsters. So we watched it. And i totally agree with u its some of the great performed, exceptionally good emotional moments and its over the top melodious music is the one which made this movie a hit. And music is still lovable and not get old and we not get bored while listening it today after 20 years. But man you forgot raaz. It was also a hit of that time with newcomers and new storyline and its music was too a big hit and still feels like an old wine. Aaahhh beautiful memories of 2000s and my school.😢

When I first saw the movie, Poo annoyed me so much. But now I have realised that she is iconic coz she is cringy (kinda like Michael Scott, though Kareena is not even remotely close to Steve Carell)...while other characters hold on to their sanskar which has already been portrayed in Indian cinema for decades, she is one of the first characters that taught us self-love and broke the notion that a person who prioritize themselves is a negative character. She prioritizes herself, but also knows the pain of her sister (this is evident from her conversation with Hrithik)

I loved the Srk-Kajol moments in this film. After the first watch, I only went back to watch their scenes and some of the songs. Their chemistry is the best I’ve seen on film. And I was so thrilled that we got Suraj Hua Maddham that actually did their pairing justice after them not having a romantic song in KKHH - since the title track was more about Srk-Rani. But honestly, the emotional scene that got me was when Kajol’s character quietly touched her father-in-law’s feet for his blessing in England after being denied that when they initially revealed that they were married. That moment brings tears to my eyes each time because you can see from her expression just how much she craved just that from him, nothing more, and it was finally fulfilled. And it was done in such an understated manner.

Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham is not just a movie it's an emotion that was the era of Karan Joher, His Collaboration with SRK was always blockbuster Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham Will forever be remembered for its family values, entertainment, Emotional sequences, Iconic Scenes, Cast Performances, Evergreen Timeless Soundtrack album. Love This Movie So Much If It Was Released Now It would have made Alot of money at the box office. Character Of Poo Played By Kareena Kapoor Was quite cringe but it was still entertaining and funny but it was 2001 at the time but if that character was played by any actress now it could have been a bit more overreacting anyways Kareena Kapoor Did Do Well. Chemistry Of Leading Cast was So Fabulous and so was SRK and Kajol Romance Chemistry along with Hrithik Roshan And Kareena Kapoor Being Great aswell

SRK’s reaction falling head over heels seeing a girl dance in Chandi Chowk on Bhangra was hilarious. We all believe in love at first sight. But this was way too much. And then the scene of Kajol saying, “Kaun Asraf Miya keh rahe hai…bade mazakiyan ho” Her voice tone was unwanted and pain to the ears. To clear my ears, I had to watch DDLJ, the part where she reads her diary to her mom 😊

Its pretty fresh form of content, if you add even more layers of meta references and serve your own speculation as to how the film "would" age through posterity. Sending lots of love and wishes ❤

The problem with today is that movie should not be perfect. Movie somehow resembles our real life and nobody in real life is perfect. Equality and female role are just glorified too much.... I think we should accept movies at it is and the character they portrayed.

Thanks for this. It takes me back to the time I was about to produce and direct my Indian Broadway production. 9/11 had happened and this movie was welcomed. If released today, I would suggest chopping 1 hr, that means Poo, needless songs, and too many characters. It work if Karan stepped back and allow new eyes to edit. Do more of these!

This is a fascinating take which I feel shows how much India's relationship with the world has changed over last past few decades. The bit where you're talking about Hrithik dancing to Vande Maataram in London, and the national anthem being sung in the movie may well be for an NRI audience. But I think there's a miss here with what it was supposed to mean for Indians who lived in India. India's economy liberalised in the early 90s. As India opened up to foreign trade and our borders (physical, social and cultural) became permeable, Indians were forced to think about modernity (how modern we are, what is tradition, what is old-fashioned) and globalisation. As foreign brands flooded the market and the youth consciousness, there was a counter-cultural movement from the late 90s to the mid-00's that put Indianness forward - it's sanskaar, music, fashion and crafts (I'm a fashion sociologist, so this view is coming from that perspective). Overt, on-the-nose (cringey, to today's viewers) celebrations of Indianness in a foreign location was a big deal - maybe to allow a generation of Indians overwhelmed by the world believe hum kisi se kum nahi hain. This movie is part of many of those decades that was trying to reconcile the new and old, foreign and local, forward and 'backward'. Even more interesting would be to think how much (if at all) movies like this, in turn, fed back into NRI consciousness and 'taught' them how to be Indian in foreign contexts.

The sign of a great movie is the script and evocation of emotion where the actors' brand names aren't needed. If K3G had Fardeen Khan, Rimi Sen, John Abraham, and Esha Deol, most people would take their TVs while K3G was playing and throw them in the garbage.
