There has been something going on with Chimaev for a long time and it might be as simple as travel restrictions. My assumption is that the powers that want Makhachev vs Oliveira in Abu Dhabi are the same who wants Chimaev. I don't know how much power they have but it might just make both of them only fight once a year until they retire and that would not put Chimaev in a title fight.

It was cool when it enabled fights during covid, but now, the Abu Dhabi relationship is one of the absolute worst things that has ever happened to the UFC. The fact that Walker vs Ankalaev was called an NC instead of a DQ was so flagrant that it still blows my mind that it wasn't hugely discussed. That aspect was barely discussed at all. It was all about the doctor. I genuinely question whether or not he was a paid fall guy. That said, Charles deserves the rematch, and perhaps some people in Abu Dhabi do want it, but by Chael's own poll, the vast majority of his listeners want it, too. Edit: if you meant the powers who want it *in Abu Dhabi*, 100%. Charles went over there when Islam was the challenger, the favor should've been returned, or at least had it in the US.

Literally no one in the top 5 of MW has an answer for a single round against Khamzat lol, what are you smoking. He is the most dangerous grappling threat in the UFC for the first five minutes of a fight & if you don't have Usman or Burns level TDD you're as good as dead. No one in Top 5 MW survives the first round. They better skyrocket Bo Nickal to the Top 5 because he may be the only one in the division who can withstand & counter such a degree of grappling threat.

The problem with them not announcing its Belal vs Leon, which we just need to get out of the way, is it creates this interest where it might actually be something else, which is just interesting simply bc it makes no sense. So when we do inevitably get the announcement of Leon vs Belal everyone is just going to be more deflated about it than theyd be if we just moved along with it no hesitation. The hesitation on announcements is what contributes to the cancer that eats up the next man up philosophy. Bc people come around pretty quick to reason, except when you stew in irrationality too long.

I think the UFC wants a situation similar to Beneil's to happen to Belal, wait till his streak is over then move on with the division. Since to the UFC Belal will sell nothing so there is no reason to have him as a potential champion, that's from the business side. But from a fight side I think belal is next or should have a clear number one contender's match against Shavkat

Now that the over the top hype around him has died down a bit, we now know he tends to struggle against the top 5 guys within the division and also gasses out after the first round. Burns and Usman gave everyone the blueprint on how to fight this guy. If he becomes champ, that’s a bad reflection of the division imo, if a guy like that beats the top guy.

Based on what evidence is he number 1 contender ? He struggled against welterweight Kamaru Usman who showed up on 2 weeks notice. Some even thinks Usman won the fight. He struggled against welterweight Gilbert Burns. Many actually thought Gilbert won the fight. He can’t beat top 5 guys at Middleweight. He couldn’t beat Usman who lost his last 2 fights at a lower weight class prior to fighting Chimaev on 12 days notice. Nonsense!!! He doesn’t deserve a title shot. Khamzat doesn't get past DDP - no chance. I think DDP absolutely schools Chimaeve on cardio, strength, and striking and wins it inside three rounds. Sean Strickland is another story. Styles make fights.
