I really love my Olympic! I only have a few left and they’re all still green. It set a huge crop, i culled 3/4 of them in spring and it was still loading and bending, but they’ve been very tasty for over a month and I ate most of them. It started dropping leaves very early, now it’s kind of bare and the birds are killing the last ones I’ve been saving… I need to learn about proper care, harvest time… and I especially need to get cuttings going. These things are pure gold! I need more!

Very cool, these seem like fantastic fruits to grow. I personally don't have room for a fruit tree, but my sister has a bunch and space for more. I'll definitely recommend giving one of these a try!

Helpful, thanks! I'll probably go with Hosui and 20th Century. From what I've read Hosui needs a companion for pollination, and 20th Century and Shinko are good for that.

Very nice assorted set of "star" fruit from your dooryard Khang! The fruits appear very juicy and sparkly from their sugar content on being sliced open. Very enjoyable tasting description to compliment your grafting project. Happy Gardening! -Bob...

Sir, Wonderful. Awesome. Very valuable information. Asian pears are great stuff and can never be underrated having magical medicinal properties more especially the abdomen related issues please. Keep it up. May I know the rootstocks on which these are grafted. These grow nicely in subtropical climates as well. God bless. Thanks a lot for being a valuable part in the service of humanity. Heartiest regards from India's State of Himachal Pradesh please. 👌👍❤️🙏🙏

I have a shinseiki and Korean (Olympic) Giant and agree, they are my favorites. Added a chojuro last summer but I won't be able to taste that one for a few years but heard it had a butterscotch flavor to it. Plus I wanted to make sure my Korean Giant have plenty of pollination partners!

Great video, I did purchase a 20th century plant, however I do see that couple of leaves are getting some brown spots not sure what could that be ? Any pointers what could be done. It’s not like small spots it’s mostly like 1/4th if the leave is kind of in brown/ blackish shade

Thank you for the series of Asian pears update. I watched them all. I have a 4 in 1 Asian pear for about 2 years now. The Hosui branch growing now twice the high and tree time the thickness compare with the other three. I’m wondering if it may take over at anytime and I will only left with Hosui. Thank you!

Hosui are very aggressive grower, same with mine. Pears tend to grow towards the central leader. I cut all mine to the same length to not allow one to over take the rest. I mentioned that on my 2022 series.

Great information!👍👍👍 Wanted to get 4 in 1 right away after watching the video! I'm living in zone 5 . It's already September so maybe it's too late. Should I wait until next spring to plant? I've been growing one apple pear 5 years but only got few small fruits and the bugs ate it first! 😂 This spring didn't even see any flower, just grow leaves! Do you have any idea what was the problem? Thank you so much! 💕

I bought some Giant Korean Pear trees for my mom online for Christmas as she loves them. We are Koreans and Korean people love them :) So anyway I know to pollinate well you need another Asian pear tree type or a Barlett pear tree within 50 feet from it so I thought of grafting a branch of a different variety of Asian pear to the trees. Will that work for pollination?
@suezotiger
@suezotiger 2 жыл бұрын
Hi I know this comment is old but yes, you can graft a different pear (or many different pears) on one root stock for easy pollination.

20th century is sweet and extremely juicy. Mine is productive and is disease free so far. I have over 20 fruit trees and I would say the Asian pear is one of my favorite because of its productivity and taste. I don’t think you could do any wrong with any variety. One thing to be mindful is some of these trees are prone to blight. I lost one tree that is over 5-6 years old so it’s a bummer to lose a tree after that much time investment.
@mishngo
@mishngo 4 ай бұрын
Agreed. I have one 20th century and one hosui about 20 feet apart. While the hosui has been fighting this horrible disease for two years now, the 20th century seems not to be bothered at all. The only thing it ever had was powdery mildew which is nothing compared to fire blight.

@@KhangStarr I hear you are in Dallas, same here :) I’m so excited that I found your videos to grow different eatables especially these pear trees. I’m a new gardener started just this year, the only eatables I was able to grow is basil, even with that, there’s all kinds of pest problems, so later I’m planting just shrubs and flower trees lol. But they have no practical purpose except eye pleasing and feeding some bees hehe. Are you planing these pear trees where they get full sun, maybe need to avoid afternoon scorched sun? Thank you!
