Melbourne and Sydney kept arguing over which city should be the capital and eventually agreed that they would build a new city between them (Canberra) to be the capital. This is also kind of why Washington DC is the capital of the US, it was a compromise location between the northern and southern states.

Ok, before watching this video I think the reason why Istanbul isn't the capital is because that part of the country is overdeveloped. The Turks moved the capital to a more central location so that in that way, development gets spread evenly to different parts of the country. I think this is more or less the reason why the Brazilian capital is Brasilia (as opposed to Rio de Janeiro), while the Russia's is Moscow (instead of St. Petersburg)
@Dear_Mr._Isaiah_Deringer4 жыл бұрын
Not really. Also the Russia part isn't accurate either. Moscow was and is larger than St. Petersburg. Indeed St. Petersburg was established much later to replace Moscow as the capital, which was ultimately reverted again. And as far as i remember in the time St. Petersburg was the capital it never had a greater population than Moscow.

You are right. It's not the only reason of course, what's been said in the video is correct too. Anatolia was abandoned for a long time, it wasn't developed at all. (Still, when you compare it to the big cities of Turkey, they lack behind a lot.) Ankara provided a good chance for Anatolia to develop. It is safer than Istanbul from a foreign invasion, it represents the Republic, not the Empire. It represents the Anatolia and leads the way.

So in order to prevent the compromisation of independence of its' capital, Turkish national movement agreed that they should stick with Ankara till these disputes are solved.

Ankara was no more than a village when the resistance moved there. The reason of it becoming too important was logistics. New parlaiment in Ankara been formed about 10 days after the British invaded the one in Istanbul. Which was a big mistake, because when the Ottoman body of the state officials were all closed down, Atatürk and his band of brothers who were organising resistance from East to West to secure hard to communicate provinces first and then start a national movement, usedthis brilliantly. The head of Istanbul parliament was a member of Ankara Parlaiment. Anatolia was poor, and Ankara was one of the towns that had a railroad, postal office and some proper buildings. And it was accessible. When the British pressed Istanbul, most MP's of theirs ran and arrived to Ankara. And if you look ata map, Ankara is a very convenient spot. You can reach it from every side. And when the war was won, the state was already acting as the main body of the country and nobody even desired to move the capital.

Do spend 2 minutes to read this heart melting historical answer by a great scholar A reply by Huzoor Mujahid e Ahle Sunnat, Hadrat Allaamah Syed Shah Turaab al Haq Qadiri(May Allah Almighty preserve him) Question: Shah sahib Qibla, I wanted to know what is the hukm for Sunnis, when they go for Hajj and Umrah,with regards to performing Salah behind the wahabi najdi imams ? Answer: The Salah of a Sunni is only valid behind a Sunni Imam, and not behind followers of any other sect. Before the saudis took over, the Ottomans ( including Turks, Arabs and Kurds also) were in power. They made such arrangements that four Salah congregations would take place, four musallahs were put down on all four sides of the Kaaba. Hanbali, Maaliki, Hanafi, and Shafi'ee, each follower of each Imam would perform Salah behind his Imam, therefore there was no issue whatsoever. The Ottomans era of rule was the rule of Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama’ah.When the saudis came they took the rule from the turks, aal saud and aal shaykh took over the rule of the country.aal saud are the worldly kings which namely control today, and they went as far as naming the country by this name also (saudi Arabia) after taking the country by force. The aal shaykh are the children of Muhammad ibn abdul Wahhaab. Before attacking the Sacred Haram aal saud and aal shaykh made an agreement that, they would jointly attack Makkah Mukarramah and Madinah Munawwarah, and when our government is established, aal saud will take over the kingdom and rulership, and aale shaykh will deal with all the religious affairs. Other reasons: -It is too close to western (thracian) borders of Turkey. Russians sieged Istanbul in 1878 and Bulgarians came close at 1912. It was occupied easily by allies in 1918 etc. etc. -After losing balkans in first balkan war and arabian peninsula in WW1 all Turkey got was Anatolia and Ankara is in the center of it. -Constantinople/İstanbul was a pretty cosmopolitan city in the early 20s. Nearly %30 percent of city's population consisted of Non-Turkic ethnicities (Greeks, Armenians etc.) Ataturk and other leaders of Turkish war of Indepence were largely nationalists. So they prefered a homogeneous city as the capital over a cosmopolitan one.

Couple of things I have to mention: National movement had to fight against newly founded Armenian state in the east with the forces loyal to General Kazim Karabekir, and Armenia was reduced to it's former territories before the treaty of Sevres. While the conditions of treaty of Alexandropol was being discussed, Armenia was invaded by Soviet Russia, with the forces of Grigoriy Ordzhonikidze. Soviets allied with Turkey, but not because they loved us dearly, because of their expansionist policies. In the south, irregular forces loyal to the tribal leaders from the region (with the aid of pro-independence Turkish generals) fought against France in a guerrilla warfare fashion and France had to withdraw. Most notable confrontations are Battles of Antep and Kanligecit. Largest theater of the war was indeed the western front against Greece, backed up by UK. But claiming that no other conflict happened elsewhere is simply not true. We even got to the brink of war against UK over Konstantiniyye. (Chanak crisis) Other than that, great video. Ankara at the time was nothing but a village and leaders knew that we needed a fresh start, a complete reset for everything that had ever been done. What is more suitable for a new work than an almost completely blank slate?

@@axelgl838 Also, Frankfurt wasn't a very big city at all in 1949, it only grew in size in the last few decades. Hamburg, Cologne and Munich were by far the largest cities in 1949. I think the most logical choice for a capital of West Germany would have been Hannover, due to several historical reasons, but maybe it was too close to the East German border. Bonn seems to have neen specifically selected because it was far away from East Germany, wasn't as industrialized as many larger cities on the Rhine, wasn't affected by WW2, had beautiful historical buildings, and had some historical significance as the capital of the electorate of Cologne and an important city in the Rhineland.

The Ottomans era of rule was the rule of Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama’ah.When the saudis came they took the rule from the turks, aal saud and aal shaykh took over the rule of the country.aal saud are the worldly kings which namely control today, and they went as far as naming the Hijaz country by this name also (saudi Arabia) after taking the country by force. The Imams will be theirs, qaadis, madrassas, muhadiths, muftis etc will all be supplied by aal shaykh. After this agreement, they attacked Madinah Munawwarah and Makkah Mukarramah. A few years ago, the Saudi government celebrated their anniversary. King Abdul Aziz was shown on tv riding on a horse within Haram Shareef, slaughtering and murdering people with his sword. Jessica Josephs A bit misleading. Ottomans didn’t “colonize” Constantinople in the same way Britain colonized India. Just call it what it was: conquest and expulsion of minorities. Many cities throughout history have been captured this way, Lithuanians or Poles don’t worry about their now renamed Russian cities. The true answer to why Greece cares is because both Greece and Turkey have massively nationalist populations that focus on irredentism as part of their identity.

Ulema e Ahle Sunnah of turkey researches and found Mustafa Kemal Atatürk is jew munafiq. Munafiq is a person who in public and in community shows that he is a Muslim but rejects Islam or propagate against it either in his heart or among enemies of Islam. The hypocrisy itself is called nifāq (نفاق).
