Incorrect, you don’t do only lower notes you have to do one octive above which is the actual result of blending bass with middle register. People should not be teaching if they are only performing. Teachers have solutions for every individual what they need. You can’t get kharaj unless you blend which is another topic all together as to why lower notes. I do recommend you don’t go above to head and throat voice in the beginning of your day.

She’s going into the lower octave. When you go up from the first note of any scale, Sa, you find the pattern of Sa, komal Re, Shuddha Re, komal Ga, Ga and so on. But when you move down, it’s Sa, Ni, komol Ni, Dha, komal Dha, and so on. It’s the same reason why you go saregamapadhanisa and after you hit the higher Sa, you go to Ni.

It's not a new fashion... most of Rafi sahab's eternal songs are in high pitch followed by Kishore Kumar, Udit Narayan and Sonu Nigam... the only difference is the new singers dont know how to manage their voice
