Thank you to everyone who has watched and supported this series. This is obviously a long and intense video unlike most of what i publish on this channel. But Kharkiv is a city I will never forget, and it deserved to have its story told. It's a city that is both heartbreaking and heart-enriching. The scenes on the street will break you, and then the kindness and strength of the people still living there will show you what humanity is all about. Speaking of which, together we have raised $1500 through this series for Ukraine. I could not be more proud of this community ❤ -dan

Kharkiv was the one of the best developed cities for living in Ukraine, with developed civilian infrastructure and spaces, based on numerous ratings and reviews before the 24th of Feb. I l'm myself from there and I believe we will fix everything and rebuild the city, however, people lives we cannot bring back, restore losses and personal suffering. As a citizen of Kharkiv I am so thankful for this video you did. When fullscale invasion started I was accidentally in Slovakia, my parents live there so I came to visit them for a week. I immidiatly wanted to come back to Kharkiv to help somehow, but rationality took charge and I decided to help our refugees to find a temporary home there. I know slovak language pretty good so I found a work as a barman. After 4 mounth spend there I was mentally destroyed by seeing this war from smartphone. At the end of august I've came back to my city. I was so happy to see my flat, my shelf with books and my country's flag resting above my bed. Now I am studying in university online and helping military with medicine a little bit. I wish I could help more, but university takes a lot of time. That's my story as you wish. Thank you again for your work. Freedom and Dignity will 100% win. Glory to Ukraine and Glory to the Heroes✊

Dan, in the years I've been watching and enjoying your videos I've never felt a deeper sense of pride in your work than I do now. Those of us who support Ukraine in its struggle for freedom against a thuggish invasion do so from a safe distance. We sit in the comfort of our homes and support Ukraine. You chose to go there. You chose to put yourself in personal danger and deprivation to tell this story. And you deserve enormous praise for your efforts even though that's not why you did it. I discovered you via your South American vids (really wonderful), and tonight, discovered this, and the rest of your Ukrainian vids. They are so incredibly powerful. On my channel, and IG, FB, Tik, and most relevant to this comment, Twitter, I've been doing a series of (mostly) daily (mostly) poetry readings. At the beginning of the invasion, I started regularly reading poetry from Ukrainian poets.I'm going to mention your amazing vids in tonight's reading, and I'll be putting a permanent link in my descriptions pointing to your channel. To be clear, I'm not telling you this for a quid pro quo, I simply want to spread as much awareness about Ukraine and its strong, resilient, and determined people, as I am able, and seeing their world through your eyes and their stories packs a powerful punch, and needs to be shared. Thank you for your thoughtful and intelligent work. All the best, Kirk

Thank you for your support! Thank you for what you are doing for us. This means a lot for us! I have lived in Kharkiv for 20 years, my sister lived with her family near the building on Northern Saltivka, that you were showing. When I came to visit her, I always parked near that building. It's so heartbreaking to see this neighbourhood. There were a lot of children there, when it was warm people were gathering outside for some barbecue and picnic. This place was safe to walk at night. Until morning of 24th of February... I do hope to see this place full of happy and free people again after our Victory. Thank you that you are with us in our fight.

Hi Dan! I am from Kharkiv, spent the first 10 days of the war there. After had to take a hard decision to leave. My parents have been there the whole time, refusing to evacuate. Luckily it’s calmer now. Your depiction of today’s reality in my hometown brings up a bittersweet feeling, just as you mentioned, both heartbreaking but also inspiring. I am dreading and longing simultaneously the day I’ll be in Kharkiv again, as it’s a different city now. We say these days that Kharkiv is “zalizobeton” - reinforced concrete in Ukrainian, describing how the city is still standing proud despite the terror it has gone through. That is the reason why its so addictive when you are there, it’s true and honest. And that’s what I love about it, to answer your repeated question - you can be yourself in Ukraine and you know people are unapologetically themselves too. Ukraine is sincere and bold and raw. And it feels amazing. Your visit means a lot, as well as your reflections do - I’m happy people can take away something meaningful from our uneasy journey this last year. Many thanks for your support and this series!

I really like Gamlet's thoughtful and positive work in spite of the darkness he and his countrymen are living through. I appreciate the conceptual thinking and purpose behind his work...especially the fragment flower piece. I hope he is still alive and he is thriving with his talent. Your comment about fighting for freedom no matter if we are in the USA, Canada, or Ukraine is very poignant.
