2:52 “and it has to come from government.” that’s the biggest joke statement I ever heard.

what do you mean? the DLNR deemed it illegal for any form of non-govt to make any changes themselves, an example is the man who built his own rock wall last year and got fined thousands of dollars everyday until he took it down. Its not a joke its the truth

Rock revetment seems to be working pretty well - Just gotta make sure the rocks are big enough and stacked properly. The ancients knew how to do it...

They knew buying property on the beach there was a chance for erosion, right? If not, too bad soo sad.

Why does the solution have to come from the government? Last time I checked the private sector is much more competent

The CITY can protect its properties at their beach parks but HOMEOWNERS CANNOT! This is such BS and OPPRESSION of working people!

yup. Waikiki is man made, back filled constantly. But its a big no no for home owners.

@@DonJulio4649 great points. DNLR wants to give these home owners a hard time for a few sea walls but have no problem building kapolie and mililani mauka instead of leaving the land as a nature preserve. Same type of logic thought diverting water from lahina was a good idea

Hopefully it all gets swept away and they make a rule NO BUILDING for the first 100 yards of shoreline from the beach. That way they can’t block the access points for surfers and allow the natural palms and wildlife to grow like back in the day

Well he's dead wrong that the solution "has to come from government". They will just create a bigger problem. The solution is probably to live more inland or not on a remote island. If those houses were not there they would make a great beach for people to enjoy. Not everyone else's problem you decide to build a house basically in the water already.

The Hawaiian Island Nation never put their permanent housing on beaches. They understood that the beaches would change seasonally. Their beach structures were temporary, while the stronger structures were up mauka/ valleys. It's not a question of the government fixing it for us it's a question of learning that we should not live on the beaches especially in this particular season of climate change. I would feel awful if my home was falling apart also. I lost my home in the wildfires of California in 2020. Losing our homes is terrible, but I did not move back into a fire zone.

Gov does NOT have that much control over you protecting your home & property. NEVER FORGET You have Constitutional rights. ALL of these home owners need to form a organization to fight this corrupt gov in court that wont allow sea walls or other means to protect THEIR land & homes. A home owner on this beach stretch should send a certified letter to the mayor, gov, permit office and planning board etc stating "Under the Freedom of information act what is a home owner allowed to build or do to protect their property long term from beach erosion. Throw the ball back into their court to come up with the answer under the law & your Constitutional rights. Do not stand idly by hoping the gov will come up with the answer. The Community needs to force their hands. NEVER FORGET this same gov gave a permit to Obama to build his sea wall again after he tore down the old sea wall even though this was against the local ordience. Sue the gov for dicrimination if they dont allow for sea walls on the north shore but, game promition to a gov offical (Obama)> It takes a village to force the hand of the gov to protect citizens & their poperty. Create a organization to fight this. And, if you have to go to court to fight it then you have a village to throw in $100 or maybe $500 each to pay for the lawyers. Much cheaper then fighting in court alone. STAND UP NOrth Shore home owners and force the hand of your gov officals to allow you to protect your property. Just like Obama got to do with his new sea wall when he tore down the old sea wall & home on his property. Dig into his permit and copy the exact wording he used to get his permit. If they dont allow it SUE for decrimination. Aloha 🌺 ps send a cerified letter return recipt and ask under the "Freedom of information act how many sea wall permits have been issues in the last 5 years". The search the names & addresses to see if they are connected to gov some way. The Freedom of Information Act the gov officals MUST provide the info you are requesting with in so many days/weeks. Send ALL Freedom of Information Act letters (FOIA) certifiec RETURN Reciept so that you know that they recieved your letters. Keep the Post office reciept to prove you mailed them & also keep the portion the postal delivery mail man gives you after it was delievered and signed by the gov office that you sent the letter to. Keep a jounal of all phone calls, dates, times, who you spoke with, what you said/they said, all Return recipes etc DOCUMENT everything in case you have to go to court.

Great ideas towards fairness.... And no more building permits anywhere in the state that is within 600 ft of the ocean so as not to continue with this debacle. Go mauka like the Hawaiians did

@@susanhassett2893 Except people in cali Bought ALL of their property and should be able to KEEP IT. If you think gov should take away land from rightful owners then you want to live in a communist society NOT a Free society. Run off to Russia, Cuba, North Korea and see truely how commie citizens have to live = with nothing. Is that what you want?
