Why are you not fact checking the centerpoint statements? Instead you just repeat their propaganda. They were supposed to provide a restoration timeline by the 11th, the map still does not provide details for the majority of neighborhoods

I am starting a new job hopefully soon and I plan to just make a hurricane fund. Like $1000-1500 for hotels, gas, food. It wouldn't have bothered me to just drive into town for work if I had to.

We just literally almost had a fight near Alief. 3 CENTERPOINT trucks were parked nearby in a parking lot. We were so happy and thought we were about to get power. A bunch of people were talking to the drivers. Suddenly, the head guy tells the others they have to go. People were so mad. They said they were waiting on some crew that didn’t arrive so they had to go to another area. Apparently, it’s the hot dang TREES! They were waiting on a crew to cut down some trees around the poles or something, but since they didn’t show, their boss told them to leave to service another area. People began yelling and screaming. Even started throwing water bottles at them. It’s the trees! They don’t have enough workers to remove the limbs and other crap to allow the electrician pole guys to reconnect! Damn you CENTERPOINT!

Yes that is why it's taking so long. They have to wait till the trees are cut by a third party, then they can go and do the job. When they say they were prepared, they weren't.
@dazesalaz687925 күн бұрын
There is a tree by my neighborhood that is hanging off power cables over the road. Cars are driving under it. Instead of removing it, they put up barricades on one side of the road so cars have to use the same lane going both directions. It's dangerous and stupid.

At this point you'd better quit hoping the nanny government will actually be prepared and act quickly. Plan how to take take of yourself. The government of Texas needs to get its head out of its donor hopes and fix the regulations governing the power grid in the ridiculously incompetent preparation of the utility companies. Someone in the upper levels of the utilities should be criminally charged. Fines are just a cost of doing business, which the utilities figure out a loophole to just turn around and bill the public to replace. Until corporate leaders start going to prison or be charged with RICO violations and lose their own money, nothing will change. Your governor is still living in the pre-civil war mindset.

I was in Houston for Hurricane Alicia back in 1983 I believe it was, and in northwest Houston afterwards we were without power for 2 weeks. So it isn't unusual (for Houston anyway) to be without power for a long time after a hurricane. And I don't know for sure, but I would guess that the Houston area has more people needing power restored now than it did then. In addition, Hurricane Ike made landfall at 2:10 am CDT Saturday, September 13th, 2008 near Galveston, Texas. Ike was a category 2 hurricane at landfall with maximum sustained winds of 110 mph. We were also without power after that storm for around 2 weeks. This isn't unusual people, it happens after every hurricane. What makes people think they are different and deserve quicker service now than in any hurricane of the past we've had? Yeah, Beryl wasn't as large or powerful of a hurricane as some we've had in the past, but it still caused a heck of a lot of damage though that is going to take time to recover from. Get used to it if you live near the coast! Oh I forgot to mention I was living in Pasadena, Texas during Hurricane Carla...that was a bad hurricane...you all think we got power back then after 2 or 3 days? lol....I was just a kid then so I don't remember exactly, but I know it wasn't a quick fix though.

@@jojokatz3256 Yes, I believe you are exactly right. They just don't know, but are learning now if they live here in Houston. I feel badly for anyone without power because I've lived through that several times in the past, and so I DO hope that they get their power back on as quickly as possible.
@Mhel202325 күн бұрын
I've been living here since 2001 and stayed blissfully ignorant when it came to hurricane season, but I learned my lesson after Ike. We went 11 days with no power. I still hate scented candles to this day. I am now prepared with food, water, solar lights, solar portable power stations and I drive a Prius kitted out like a mini camper in case I have to sleep in there (hybrid means I can run the air and it uses about a gallon a night). I refuse to be dependent on a system that is too disorganized and too busy finger pointing to get the work done to get power restored. I've accepted that in order to get help, I have to help myself.

In FL, they usually get the power back in less than a week for a category 1. Maybe 2-3 weeks if a 4 or 5 sits on us a while or hits most of the state. Our power companies seem to have plans in place to make sure they get the main strips and commercial areas back online, first. Sometimes, it doesn't seem fair because they help people rich enough to own businesses over the little people, but the businesses can provide food, water, and even air conditioning that private houses probably wouldn't to other people. The restaurants (even fast food) often end up packed until the power is restored for the other citizens, but it's nice to let grandma and grandpa get some A/C.

@DebraJohnson it's 1000 percent a grid issue. They have no standards to uphold here in HTown. That means no maintenance standards, no standards for treee cutting g or burying lines, zero incentive. The cause of this outage is exactly that lack of investing into the infrastructure because they don't have to as long as they keep paying Austin politicians
