this accident was totally avoidable. plane was flyable and there was no need for an emergency landing.

This electrical system failure did not constitute an emergency that required a panicked landing scenario which resulted in this incident and that could have easily caused multiple fatalities. The aircraft had a good working engine and all pertinent flight instruments to continue flight to safely land - the only thing missing was good aeronautical decision making…

Bingo! The 73 Grummans are as simple a plane as there are. Just fly a normal pattern and land. Intentionally running into another aircraft is panic, not a sane assessment.

Pilot error He should have touched down in the grass next to the runway (that's what its there for ) As to to NOT ..involve another aircraft due to his own incompetence

I'm subscribed to seven aviation channels and this incident has been covered. The pilot of the second plane will be disciplined. He had options and failed to use them.

I have many hour's in early Grumman's. You SLIP the plane and/or pull up if you wanna slow down. Heading downhill and not slipping only makes you faster!

Of course, if you reset the Alt circuit breaker, it would have probably restored field current and all electrical power. It can (and will) trip if the alternator when it's working hard to recharge a flat battery and all other loads.

A little obvious plane should never have taken off, if you have to jump then you have to question if the charging system's working which it obviously wasn't. The plane was not airworthy at the time

Grumman had an option jump start port from the factory and there were STC's to add one. It's not unusual at all.

It was an uncontrolled field. It doesn’t require radio communications. The airplane doesn’t require electrical power… at all. The aircraft appears completely airworthy.; VFR, full control over all necessary equipment. This was not an emergency. This scenario did not require him to land immediately. The pilot will lose his certificate.

Jump staring is fine, my similar Grumman even has a jump port from the factory. This was a non-emergency. Heck, landing no flaps in Grumman is no problem; just slip the heck out of it and you can actually land shorter.
