I drove it as well and love it, I still prefer the EV9 because I do need that sort of space regularly but I would definitely be happy with the EV5 (better than a Swasticar for sure).

Sounds like a decent, practical car! Not every car needs to set a new benchmark. And I'm right with you on cloth seats, although my real dream would be for velours seats to come back 😍 One minor niggle: Gav, you used kW a few times when you meant kWh, as in the car used 18.9kW/100km 😉 Otherwise an exceptional video! The Voyager reference made me lol 😂 Your comparisons are up there with Clarkson 👍👍 (but you're probably a nicer person 😉)

The KIA's touch screen operating system is a thing of hate for me. The "auto" "option" for A/C isn't either; it'll fight you, set the heater to blow warm air on your face and it'll over ride to defrost for some obscure reason and you CAN NOT turn off Auto A/C controls. Sounds like voice controls on the EV5 might be rehabilitation of their user interface team.

Think you meant Church of England instead of Roman Catholic when you did your height. :) This is also heading to Canada in 2026 so that will be interesting to find out how it does in cold winters, properly cold I mean particularly as LFP isn't great in that level of cold but have to wait and see.

Lol nice review I have the Australian Earth awd version and am jealous that they left off the 360 degree camera from our but we do get the free massage. The extra 70 kw gives it a nice performance boost putting the EV5 into hot hatch performance range at least off the mark. In Australia we get special locally tuned suspension that is quite firm so it handles very well but I would have preferred it a bit more roly poly. We are happy with the car and have easily adjusted to living with the free fuel from solar aspect, our ice car is getting some cobwebs now i'm sure.

My 2023 Niro has wireless carplay but no wireless charging. The GT has wireless charging but no wireless carplay. Weird. My solution: Install a wireless charging pad. Hacked off the air vent mount and double sided taped it to the perfectly flat dash between the two screens (where the aircon screen is on this model).

I bet you really don't know how lucky you are driving those lovely empty roads that New Zealand has. Went there in 2012 and the one thing I remember the most is mile after mile of empty smooth roads. Jealous, me ! Too right I am. Try our roads over in the UK 🇬🇧 😱😭

Don't see it beating Tesla, and claiming 555KM's is silly, as you found out yourself, and I wouldn't say you were driving fast. It's still too expensive especially if you want more than basic spec, no sunroof is a big plus for me though. Things like battery level at the start of the trip to work out realistically how often you need to charge for us ICE drivers would be handy as would more emphasis on economy and cost, don't forget the RUC's, not everyone has (or wants) solar. Interesting car though, well worth a look.

All that "playfull" stuff on the Tesla would drive me absolutely NUTS. And not having carplay or auto is simply ridiculous, after all these years.Add in the complete reliance on a single screen, and the black or white (but absolutely no other) interior colour scheme and I'm starting not to care about whether the Model Y is good or not. However, the one thing that ensures that I will never, ever, under any circumstances, buy a Tesla is the wannabe fascist who bdenefits from people buying Teslas. Unfortunately, KIA still haven't decided whether they'll be bringing the EV5 to Europe.
