Thanks for testing the efficiency of the cars Bjorn! I really think that efficiency is very important for EVs. If you have an efficient powertrain, you need less battery to cover the same distance which in turn makes the car even more efficient. Also, it means that a smaller battery charges faster at 50kW chargers, which is important on trips to places where there aren't any HPC's.

So it seems that the hew Hyundai/Kia platform has issue with high speeds. Another French KZbin did efficiency test (all véhicule compared to a ioniq28 and numbers recalculate to be more accurate). And for both ioniq5 and ev6 the numbers are good in city, on standard road but bad on highway. Your test confirm that also. Tesla still the best on efficiency at high speed. Battery Max Temp is NOT the temperature of the hottest module, it probably measures some other important component in battery pack. In the app (Ioniq 5/ EV6 profile) you can see 16 module temp sensors (for 32 battery modules in EV6, and 30 modules in Ioniq 5). Temperature distribution is more even between modules, difference is smaller than between Min-Max Batt Temp.

Bjorn - thank you for your test. Interestingly few hours ago I test driven EV6 GT-Line RWD 239 hp with 20 in wheels (in my country all versions with 77 kWh battery come with 20 inch wheels only). So 12 C, 20 inch, AWD 229 hp, mainly Normal mode, rather gentle on pedal mixed conditions: up to 120 km/h briefly, country roads at 85 km/h, bit of the city run and it consumed 18.2 kWh/100 km. Nice car, with generally nice interior (seats bit too short for my liking, windshield top edge too low ) - but range is too low for my liking and infrastructure (or lack of it) in my country. Pitty - it was on my shortlist, but dropped off because of highway thirst. AWD is different, but RWD response to accellerator was... well, slower than expected when overtaking in normsl mode. There was slight delay in torque delivery to the wheels. Pity. Side note - isn't the battery 77 kWh vs 72 in your spreadsheet?

The reason for "high" consumption of climate control is explained @ 4:40. You can see that it doesn't use the heat pump for heating. I agree. I drive an E Niro and none of the VAG/BMW/MB pure EVs provide any EV tech advantage except some faster charging which is meaningless to me. Both Korean E.GMP models launched so far have been too big physically for me and the fast charging is not a feature I need. The E Niro has a range of between 250 and 300 miles, way beyond my bladder, stamina and stomach tolerance AND I only need to use a public charger for about 15% of my journey miles. I am interested in trading up from the E Niro and it seems that Tesla continues to have the technical and design edge for efficiency and performance. It’s clear that with intent and engineering research more can be done eg, Lucid Air EV design is proving effort can be rewarded with improved results. Will the mainstream/legacy makers start taking EV tech requirements seriously?

Could something else than 75% km/h be a better measurement? From this chart you would expect the ionic 5 and ev6 to destroy the model y in the 1000km test

Quite disappointing really. Clearly a huge car, plus winter tyres and 1c make a big difference, but no better than VW group? Whatever happened to Ioniq efficiency? Obviously fast charging makes it a great long distance car, but not in UK as we have a tiny number of Ultra Rapid chargers.

@@bjornnyland Thanks for taking time to reply. Your tests really are the best by a long way. Still disappointed though, particularly range at speed, was hoping it would beat Ioniq 5 and Enyaq, even allowing for winter. Drove it and way better than the others. However, think have made a mistake in ordering, need to try and stretch budget to Model Y perhaps somehow.
