With a few updates like that, these will be great cars. As it is, serious bummer that they don't have route planning, pre heating and a few minor things. It definitely needs the preheat option to be implemented in some way. Today I had a trip of 342 highway km’s at 107 true km/h (auto cruise control at 111) and 6km of main road. It still had 86km of range left in the battery which I think is quite good. Strangely the app even says 5.99 km/kWh

EV6/Ioniq5 have CNT seat heating elements which is more efficient and heat up faster but more expensive than common PTC ones CNT is in a thin film shape, it'll prob require another separated packagings just for the side bolster heaters (unlike PTC just adding additional heater strips as needed) the side bolster application is unnecessary costly when considering it already heats up faster ig? Also it could be there wasn't enough time for heat to spread evenly cuz it's faster to heat up heat density and peak temp seem very high I think its kinda similar to the compromises between COB leds vs led strips😁

Wish list items for my EV6: 1) tell me arrival state of charge on route planning 2) An actual ROute planning thing! 3) Fix my Eco Mode that was "bricked" with the battery conditioning update! 4) Make battery preconditioning a bit more accessible (you can have it activate further than 30 miles from chargers, and that it will work with Android Auto or Apple car play, or ABRP?) 5) OVER THE AIR UPDATES!!!! 2019 cars like the I PACE hat that! Otherwise, I'm very happy with this car (I have Matte "rey" GT-Line).

With the Hyundai/Kia platform did you not prove on 1 of the earlier tests to avoid rapidgating/ overheating the battery-pack by turning off the HVAC system and charge faster, therefore conversely if HVAC was on whilst charging would this not assist heating battery pack to eventually speed up the charging?

Thanks for your work Bjorn. Question to everyone: so is there a way to preheat the battery before you come to charge? How many accelerations you need to do to increase temp by lets say 10c? Does it even work this way?
@anthonyhovenburg932
@anthonyhovenburg932 2 жыл бұрын
Pre-heating can be achieved in several ways - some better than others. Keep in mind that rapid discharge can actually be harmful to a cold battery. So when pre-heating you want the batteries to convert as much energy as possible directly into heat. When doing some rapid accelerations you are indeed generating heat but most of the energy is converted into kinetic energy (wheels moving), where the heat is only a residue due to conversion inefficiencies. In fact, its better for your battery's health to not pre-heat at all if this is the only option. Tesla, and other manufacturers, use a technique of stalling the motors, where they basically become massive heating elements. Bjørn in his videos refers to this as "after-burners". This one of the better ways to heat up the battery - though indirectly.
@SergejGrabun
@SergejGrabun 2 жыл бұрын
@@anthonyhovenburg932 I appreciate that it might be harmful to the battery, but if I need to make a quick stop versus 40 minutes I'd rather do anything in my power to achieve this. Charging 40kW or 140kW is a big difference and if I can achieve it - I would. Unfortunately I am not Tesla owner, but, soon to be, Kia EV6 hence I rely on other means of pre-heating the battery in colder times. Not planning to go to extreme temperatures, but even a 5 - 15c increase dramatically increases charging speeds (according to this Bjorn's video). How much harm if at all it can cause to battery is something I can live with (until kids are older) :D

I don't think sport mode is the issue, but rather sporty driving. Hard acceleration and regen will pull enough current through the pack to warm it up a bit, but that's tough to do with passengers or on crowded roads. Also hard on your tires 😬 Plus these E-GMP cars tend to pull a lot of heat out of the pack to heat the cabin, so the car will be fighting you the whole time you're trying to warm up the pack, essentially.

I agree so much unfortunately. I bought an Xceed Phev last spring (2021) and I'm less than less impressed with Kia's software. The Xceed is a nice car, but it has it's oddities that could all be firmware patched, but they don't. The automatic charging doesn't work at all (and I'm a software engineer, couldn't make it work), the app is laggy, it doesn't always update the EV range after charging, there is no button to enable lock/unlock of the charging cable so I have to flip it through the settings page (which only work when the ignition is all the way on). After a firmware update in fall 2021, my car auto starts the radio if my phone is not yet connected unless I toggle the "Don't start media" button, which means I have to manually start Spotify every time I enter now. It also has this oddity of unlocking the doors if I enter the car and press the "lock doors" button really fast, because I'm in a shady environment. It will lock, unlock, in two seconds. I think it's invoking a function to auto-unlock because somebody is in the seat and the seat is being moved forward because I just entered. Why doesn't the rear lights turn on when the rain sensor activates? Why can't the app control the sunroof? Why can't the app pre-cool the car (I understand I don't have a heat pump, so I'm ok with no pre-heating)? Also, the EV6 looked great when I test drove it, but it has "faded" on me after seeing many of them on the roads now. The blinkers are weirdly far down and I've caught myself not even being "in love" with the headlights, just thinking "Hey, they are different". Compare that to the BEAUTIFUL white lines of modern Audi headlights with indistinguishable light elements and the courtesy of having dual charge ports on an e-tron, I'm actually beginning to like those better. They are expensive as fuck ,but you can also get better coloring options and a cupholder heating/cooling option.
