The angle in which they designed the rear window glass was perfect, such that it does not need a wiper nor does it accumulate any dirt. Was surprised to see someone having a very dirty rear end yet the glass is squeaky clean. Looks really nice from front on.

Hi yep 1 pedal option is there and to turn off lane keeping can be done on the steering wheel very easily. ( I think its a EU requirement to default back to lane keeping when you turn off the car)You need to put it in sport mode and you’ll notice the difference massively and then it is similar to polestar 2. I did the same thing when I first drove it and was a little disappointed. Then I was advised to turn on sport mode and then it rocketed. So i suggest you drive it again and put it in sports mode as I found very little difference to that and the Polestar 2. You will know this as the dash turns red. However it is more linear than the polestar and is how Kia wanted to go. A few you tubers have clocked 0-60 at 4.6 secs. Which is pretty quick and carries on accelerating very quickly and you are the first one to say its not quick, (Matt Watson, Jason Plato and others all say its quick) hence why I presume you didn’t have it in sports mode?The front windows are double glazed the rears are not. i tested quite a few electric cars Polestar2, Ford Mach E, Tesla model Y before I ordered an EV6 GT line. I felt all round it was the better car for me and you forgot to mention the other unique features such as the rapid charging speeds(temp allowing) and the vehicle to load feature. I think once you fund out all the features and test it properly as appreciate you haven’t had long with it then I think you’ll appreciate it more. 👍👍

100%. My AWD GT line S which is due soon and is in Black and I have ordered separately some 20” satin black wheels and red painted callipers. When done it will look so ‘Darth Vader’ish, especially with ceramic coating on it. The reason for the second-set of wheels is albeit from UK I live in Sweden and we need winter wheels here, so I am not wasting very good 20” factory wheels as these will be my winter wheels and full satin black wheels for the summer. I know the Tesla model3/Y is a great car, but the looks for me just doesn’t float my boat. 🤔

@@nakoma5 Spot on. Yes I think Tesla probably will have the better residual. But here in Sweden second hand values are very high and have been historically compared to typical second hand values back home in the UK. Albeit more expensive to buy initially here, the monthly’s are better than I was getting in the UK. I got a superb residual value albeit i decided to just take a slightly longer finance and have no balloon payment at the end. Plus speaking to a few people I know in the industry, the supply and demand for EV’s and taking into account the global shortage of chips and other parts etc will no doubt keep residuals high for sometime to come? Here’s hoping anyway 🙏🏼.

I don't really know how to feel about a lot of these EV's coming out with very high power outputs for normal people. I mean these buyers will be coming from cars with maybe 150HP if you are lucky and then going into a car with 300-600HP. I feel like there will be a lot of people not expecting the trouble they can get into when they put their foot to the floor.

I agree. For todays roads no-one needs more than 300hp. My frustration with companies like Polstar where the base car give a reputed range of 300+ miles for their 2 motor model. But if you want some nice wheels fitted you need to buy the performance pack which now takes you to their 4 motor model with 600hp where the range now drops to about 200 miles per charge which would be useless for me...

After our first contact with the EV6 GT-Line AWD we reconsidered all previous choices. We ordered in November 2021 with „full house“ and probably 12 months delivery time. Only problem we need the car by August 2020 because we go to electric events as consultants. Might be the advantage over first deliveries would be an update for winter charge and navigation system, so we keep hopeing and wait.

One thought on city range: I’d suggest that those driving and *living* in a city are more likely to struggle with at-home charging, at least until local authorities get serious about providing on-street charging. As such the longer the range the less frequently they’d have to visit a commercial charger.

Having had the chance to spend some time in a Polestar 2 last summer I am scratching my head a little over your comments about the accelerator and low speed handling. I found it to be completely intuitive from the start, and given the performance on tap the slightly graduated start was very welcome. The handling was also impeccable at any speed, although the model I drove didn't have the sports suspension (and I suspect was a lot better as a result). The fit and finish was also excellent!

I agree. The Polestar 2 drives well. And it doesn't need the sports suspension as the regular suspension was quite firm over the bumps I went over. But it was comfortable. Any stiffer would not be. The fit, finish is great but the real standout is just how solid it feels.

the sound system not having much bass is a good thing. The sound system is very balanced and very clear, instead of overly bassy like most in-car sound systems. A lot of bass often means the sound system is actually poorly tuned, not well tuned. I am always having to put the bass at -7 out of 10 in 90% of systems. In the Kia it is only at -1 or 2 for a balanced sound. That in my eyes is a sign that the system is actually very well calibrated. It reminds me of my reference headphones at home (Sennheiser HD600) which are one of the best and most balanced headphones you can get.

Hi Jay been watching your video's for a couple of years now. Been looking for the right Evora 400 for past 8 months ( Hens teeth at the moment i know!). Coincidentally have also just ordered the KIa EV6 as main car. Gone for the mid spec GT line with AWD. To my mind best performance without sacrificing range too much as the 20 inch wheels cripple range somewhat. Also not a fan of the fancy gizmo's on Top model. I test drove the Polestar on same day also & although the style of Polestar is more pleasing to the eye & the Google assisant was brilliant i found it lagging the Kia in so many other ways. The EV6 just has more comfort & space. Also rides much better. PS Very informative video as allways.

Good point about motorway range. I used to have a Zoe ZE40 and around town 200 miles range but 70 mph it was more like 125 miles (the best tactic given that it didn't rapid charge was to slipstream a truck and then it was 180 miles). 5 to 6p per kW charging at home? Maybe 2 years ago James, even economy 7 off-peak rates are likely to be 2 to 3 times this price. Most daytime rates are currently 22p to 28p per KW. I thought the 11p per KW anytime of day Octopus offer people with solar panels and a Tesla power wall 2 was one of the very best anytime rates. Why do you actually need to re-charge in 10 minutes? 🤔 Do you regularly drive more than 200-250 miles in one trip without taking a 30 minute break in 4-6 hours of driving? Again, re-think how you ‘fill up’. When recharging you do it whilst you are doing something else. If you’re sitting around waiting for the car to re-charge then you’re doing it wrong!

@@ioandragulescu6063 even with ‘normal’ inflation of 4/5% a 20k car is going to be 25k 5 years later… By the time the ban comes in I don’t think there is much chance of a full battery charge in 10mins, probably more likely battery capacity/regeneration and more efficient motors making ranges of 500 or more miles but will still require plugging in over night for hours….

This looks an interesting car and one to definitely consider if going EV. KIA seem to have really upped their game over the last few years, going from a budget and somewhat maligned brand to being a real contender. At £40k this isn’t cheap by any means, but still £10k or so less than you’d pay for an a arguably more premium car, such as BMW’s i4. I’ve been considering EVs as either one or my only source of transport for a while. The conclusion I’ve come to is that for now I’ll stick with my petrol car. I think I may well keep this one for quite a number of years because: 1) it is probably the most environmentally responsible thing to do; 2) the longer I leave it the better EV cars will be; 3) My current car is relatively new, good fun and does all I need; 4) I may not even be living in this country in a few years the way things are going here in the U.K. and so may want a left hand drive car; 5) The public charging infrastructure should be improved by then wherever I happen to be; 6) You can’t consume your way to be better environmentally, as so much of any product’s carbon emissions are created in its manufacture and that’s before you get on to dubious mining methods and working practices, finite resources, shipping distances of raw materials etc. It’s a really interesting point James you made re the range of EVs. Working in ‘reverse’ to ICE cars means their range is at its worst when you want it to be at its best. Adding range in town from lots of regen breaking is great, but you’re more likely to be near a charger. On the open road is where a greater range comes into its own. I do a reasonable amount of longer journeys, so I think an EV would still frustrate at times, even if it would probably do the other 90% fine. A decent charging infrastructure is what’s really needed.

The motorway range is principally because of the lack of gears. In town in your average ICE car you're in 3-4th gear, at 2-3k rpm. On the motorway you're in 5-6th gear (if manual) at the same RPM. With an electric car that revs to 8-10k rpm, you're probably seeing VMax of 100mph at 10k rpm. So 30mph is at 3k rpm. There is no idle. So that motor barely ever gets to its peak power draw in town whereas on the motorway it stays at a consistent 7k rpm, which from a idk, 150kW motor on little load, that's probably still around 15-20kWh of average draw from the batteries. They should in all honesty add overdrive gears for motorway use only. They don't take up much space and would save lots of power. I mean, most EVs already have a 10x gear reduction or thereabouts so having a 10x and a 5x would be ideal.

That's not how electric motors work. The power usage depends on the volts and amps that the controller allows the motor to use. Your description treats it as a switch; either on or off.

Excellent review. KIA is putting out some great products nowadays. Unfortunately, after having traded my Lexus for a 2nd Gen Kia K900 I predict the EV6 will fail or underperform for the exact same reasons. Namely, KIA will decline to put any advertising budget behind the car beyond giving it to all “the usual” KZbin reviews who will rightfully say it is the best thing since sliced bread for the money (read stinger). Sad to say but the Tesla “crowd” is deeply entrenched and will not be swayed by excellent and balanced KZbin reviews. Might be able to slice off some BMW buyers since they are all approaching $100k in some configurations

You hit the nail on the head with the comment about it being more difficult, as time goes on, to convert people to an EV. Problems being having to stop every 200 odd miles to charge the car up and also the charging infrastructure. Many many people do well over 20,000 miles a year in their job, which in an EV really isn’t going to be feasible to do with all the time that you have to waste charging an EV. Hundreds of cars stop at a motorway services every day to refuel. This takes about five minutes but if it takes an hour, as it currently is on average, to charge an EV then how on earth will services be able to cope with that number of vehicles wanting to charge up. Wil they have hundreds of of charging stations at a services? I’ve test driven a Hyundai Ioniq5 last summer and the dashboard, with its plethora of icons and no buttons was very frustrating trying to get various features to display. The Kia EV6, with a very similar dashboard display is a nice car but there will be no EV for me for quite a long time until the range is more in line with an ICE vehicle. In fact I’ve just ordered a new Defender 90 P400.

A quick US perspective. It's a nice car, 10 months after Kia (and Hyundai for that fact) started shoving the EV6 and Ioniq into our faces, you still can't get a price out of them except for the $57k initial release of the EV6, but okay, not something to really worry about. Big problem though, talking to my companies leasing agent, they are estimating a 3 year residual 45%.....So your $50k EV is suddenly worth $23k. Okay, all cars depreciate, but take a Model 3, that loses 23% over 3 years. To get to the point, at least in the US the majority of new EV's are leased, so either Kia/Hyundai are going to be eating a chunk of the difference or the Tesla will have a huge advantage in lease payments.
@markgeezey1809
@markgeezey1809 2 жыл бұрын
Hi in Europe it is very different. Again we use leases as you do. However the demand in Europe is high and the supply is low. Plus as it is becoming a requirement over the next few years to move away from ICE vehicles and manufacturers will struggle to keep up with demand, it means that residuals on most EV’s are very high. I easily got similar to what I would have got with Tesla. However second hand residual’s are high over here. So maybe it’s a North American thing?
@lvthud
@lvthud 2 жыл бұрын
@@markgeezey1809 Kia and Hyundai have never had great residuals over here, which was understandable 20 years ago, but they have been making some great cars (K900 and Stinger jump to mind) I don't know if the company I was talking to just used their historical value or they have some other knowledge, but it's going to make for some bargains in a couple of years.

I don't agree that this and the Polestar are in the same category. This car is bigger and the Polestar is a sedan. It's a small sedan with a hatchback that sits maybe, maybe an inch higher than most sedans. But there's nothing "crossover" about it. This car is more crossover like. And the Polestar 2 is not bespoke. It's sitting on a hybrid platform. The Polestar 4 will be bespoke and in the EV6's category but that's not even going to be introduced until late next year. All-in-all, this looks like a fantastic car. Polestar has a racing heritage and is really a Volvo in origin, it feels European and probably has the handling advantage if you push it. But I'm a big fan of the Kia and think it competes with the Model Y, Ford Mach E, VW ID. 4, and vehicles like that. The Model 3 and Polestar 2 compete with each other and I feel both of them are sedans. The Volvo XC40 Recharge is a "crossover" or small SUV but smaller than the others.

Kia has a 7 year warranty /150,000km covers pretty much everything including batteries. If your in to EV’s and follow whats been happening in the EV world those days of batteries failing after a few years or exploding is total rubbish. The same with the range anxiety. Do 280-300miles. Pop in a service station/ garage for a piss and a sandwich and come out car is fully charged. Plus everyday I have a fully charged car with around 280-300 miles range and it costs next to nothing to charge at home if your on a cheap night tariff . Thats my experience anyway

I think EV range tests should be worst case scenario. Tell me the least amount of range I should expect. To me, that would go further in selling me on a particular EV. A nighttime, worst winter conditions imaginable (driving into high winds)? That is the real opportunity for auto makers to give figures that will ease people's range anxiety. I'd love to see something like Winter/Summer (min/max) range/mpg on all vehicles myself. I know that high numbers sell ICE vehicles, but EV is a very different animal when travelling any distance.
