Kia EV6 Review - My favourite car of 2021 (GT Line S) TEST DRIVE

Had my second test drive of the EV6 GT-Line S RWD today. Wife was most impressed and both came away happy unlike our new Niro EV 2 last month. I would dispute the comment on ECO mode. I have only ever driven my e-Niro 4 in ECO and drove the EV6 in ECO. There is more than enough acceleration and responsiveness - it is fast and responds when needed.

Best real world review I've seen of the EV6. thank you Tish! I love this car, its so good that we are starting to see driver focused EV's as it's exactly the thing I would be after when I can afford it. I really hope some smaller models come out with this philosophy - if Kia could do a smaller hatchback or saloon version of this car I think they'd be onto a winner. I hope the EV6 does well though, definitely deserving of being your favourite car! Thanks again :)

This is easily one of your very best reviews Tish. Very informative leaving no stone unturned. Very good editing as well. I think you made a very valid point on the mode selection. Having the mode cycle 'sounds' like a sensible solution however as you say if you twiddle it beyond sport then eco is engaged that changes the cars behaviour significantly. I think Kia (and other makers) should take note. A 'cycle' would be safer if it went E-N-S-N-E-N etc. Less of a dramatic change in vehicle behaviour. I really like the EV6 and those blind spot cameras are great. I'm not yet ready to pull the trigger on an EV yet but if I was this car would certainly be on my short list. Nicely done! Wonderful presentation style and content which is important because, for the time being, I'll be enjoying the EV6 vicariously though KZbin reviews. I've just ordered one (in March) and was told 12-18 months wait is very likely here in Canada. I think we're going to see a lot of these around someday soon. I've been driving a 2017 Hyundai Ioniq EV through the last 5 Canadian winters and it still looks and handles like new AND continues to beat the rated range so I'm convinced I'll be happy with anything that the Hyundai/Kia folks are putting on the road today.

Test drove one today, loved it. Even the 2wd one is surprisingly punchy. Instant power pushing instead of pulling with no messing with gear changes etc. Not due a new car till November, we live in a bonkers world you've got to think ahead, there is a good chance my next one will be the 4wd GT line S.

2:24 - those wheels are 20" inch (not 21"). The 21" wheels will be on the GT version out in approx. Q3 2022. Great and honest review Tish 👌 with good overview of the car's features. Probably the only review I think I've seen which didn't mention the V2L.

I've got mine on order, the test drive blew the competitors away on back to back drives. As for it being slow, the important thing is TCS can be fully turned off and it was more than happy to get loose. In regards to 0-60 times, it's all relative to traction, 30-130 times are a much more realistic measure. Let's remember though this is an eco car, it's there for us to save the fuel for the day's we wheel out the Sunday best and go for a blast

Stellar review, Tish! I waffled between the EV6 and Mustang Mach-E GT. Ended up going with the Mustang for the better backseat experience with the full panoramic glass roof and its superior acceleration. I love the EV6 looks and it definitely has better charging speeds over anything else on the market. Sounds like Kia has no plans for OTAs to make any performance changes or overhaul the EV6's infotainment system.

Good review Niece Tish. I would go for the EV6 over the Mustang Mach E or a Tesla. Also, I would consider anything that does 0-62 in more than 7 seconds to be slow to this day.

Great review, Tish! So back in October when you joined me on the podcast, you said that the e-tron GT was your car of the year. Did you really prefer the EV6 to that? Regardless, this seems to be a fantastic product, and a great first attempt at a proper EV from Kia. I’d personally take a Mach-E GT over this, but EV6 is still a great contender. I feel you on the whole lack of rear visibility - the Evoque I’ve been driving the past week has awful rear visibility. Hopefully the Defender will be fixed soon!

I really like that key-activated "park feature" that you showed off. I'm surprised there is no glass roof to ameliorate the dark rear seat area. Nice long range and fast charging! Acceleration is not stellar but its "acceptable." Nice review! (BTW, the US version is 4.6 seconds 0-60 mph. It is advertised online at KIA as available in this year. )

Great review. In Ireland heat pump is standard on all models, also I don't think this car would be a hit if it were a sports saloon. Bigish Saloon cars are not in demand anymore, SUVs and crossovers are whats in demand holding great resale values..I think this EV6 is a Crossover type SUV.

Great review Tish, your review confirms why this sets the standard for EVs The dash is better, I don't like the tablet dashes and I think the dual mode touch screen and knobs for the heating are an excellent idea. Its too big for me, but has a decent range. The price is OK, for this type of car, starting at £40K. I'd have this over any medium/large EV. The really good news that there is more to come from the motor manufacturers!

This is an EV where it does respect the past of the automotive world yet looking forward, as I do prefer physical knobs, dials and buttons over the touch or haptic feedback based systems. Just make it multifunctional. All screen setups such as the Teslas and increasingly Volkswagen group are rather cumbersome, especially when you just want to make an adjustment to the ventilation system or volume adjustment, two of the most commonly used functions of the vehicle while driving. If Kia offered something a little bit smaller, then I would really go for it.

I'm not sure that's really boyish. it looks more like a sports car interior but a great solution would be to vynl the interior to your liking 👍 great review. I saw my first EV6 here in Florida at work. it's beautiful 😍. Also the EPA range of 310 is not correct. the EV community is getting more then 330 Full range here so I'd deff would check it out if your don't have a family greater than 4. I will look more at the Ariya.

GT-Line S RWD, spec'd off Kia's UK site - £50k. Yes, FIFTY GRAND - FFS! it's clear the EV6 is a design statement, and while it's getting good reviews, this is out of the range of 95% of buyers who'd even consider an EV. Hey you say, potential buyers will look at a PCP deal, but that's still between £7-800pm even with a hefty deposit, so still a non-starter for most. Other than todays geriatric LI battery tech, and massively inadiquate charging infrastructure, price is the EV's biggest problem - and they'll remain a rich mans play thing until that changes.

Wonderful review, Tish. I'm not sure what your thoughts are on this, but I believe the blind spot camera feature (when you use the turn signal) on the EV6 is something that should become a standard feature on future vehicles. It would prove to be an invaluable tool in the prevention of accidents around the world. By the way, loved how you matched the car (those pleather pants - and later that gorgeous mini!). :) A beautiful combination of a modern car being reviewed by a gorgeous classic beauty. ;) #beautifultish

The build quality is better than TELSA and it’s certainly more like a conventional car inside but unfortunately still can tough TELSA for charging and range

Her criticism of the "boyish" character of the interior is valid. Tesla went for a more minimalistic and neutral aesthetic. I really like it, but most serious drivers seem to agree that it's not practical. Getting used to it, by the way, neither makes it intuitive nor practical. Liking it doesn't change this. The EV6, on the other hand, seems far more driver-focused and very much doesn't shy away from putting the tech in the driver's face. This will appeal to more men that it will women. Kia likely knows this and is willing to lose sales because they're targeting certain drivers. I haven't used the system in the EV6, but I do agree that the graphics seem dated. The font used, too. Kia would be wise to start working on a replacement interface immediately. The Tesla interface is just too clean taking design cues from the cleaner Android implementations and iOS. When I was in my friend's Model X, I noted that the interface felt like Android (which for me was a good thing). Again, Kia needs to tap into this because it will eventually start to really matter.

Electric vehicles are already a potential fail, given the rising costs of electricity atm. It all depends on where you live. On the beautiful island of Amrum, all 8 charging stations are for free. In Germany, no taxes are counted for electric cars. In addition, you get a CO2 bonus of €250 per year. So you have to pay virtually no maintenance costs for the electric car. It doesn't get any better than that 😊

Overpriced and too much plastic that feels cheap... Not an issue but at the price they sell it, it is a problem.. Interesting but confused styling - I think it will date quickly.. 0-60mph perfectly acceptable but it certainly isn't a fast car at all.. Above 60 the acceleration tails of and the top speeds mean you should beware of using the outside lane whilst on the Autobahn... Of course UK drivers won't worry about such things - but it's not fast.. Rear cargo space disappointing... Rear seat under thigh support very poor - but this is true of almost all EVs.. Summary, very good start and a better proposition than a Tesla but it needs to be about 10 - 15 % less expensive, a big improvement needed in plastic fit and finish.. At least you have a real dealer network to go and visit to get servicing done..
