I've been driving a niro (ofc not the ev) for around a year and im delighted by the smoothness, efficiency, reliability and never the less the quality of interior materials. As you mention, might not have the quality of VW Golf (specially on the seats materials) but it's almost there. Defenitely, above other compact cars from Opel, Peugeot, Toyota, nissan and Ford.

Great review. My wife has a Kia Sorento and my son has a Kia Stinger, looks like Kia is doing a outstanding job with the Niro too. I am loving my Bolt EV but that Niro looks pretty nice. Very similar features to our Kia’s. Congrats on 99k subscribers.

I have the Kia Niro Phev and love it done 4100km and still on 1st tank of fuel, will have to wait a year or so to get the EV version, but a great car to upgrade too! can not wait until the next video!

I charge the car as much as possible and drive in ev most of the time, I have averaged 115km/litre over the 4100km 1st fill up was 2 days after getting delivery of the car on June 5th. daily commute is 32km leaving 17km left even with going up and down some major hills, still have 111km of fuel range left.

Really loving both the interior and exterior of this car. I would relly consider buying this as my next car. Want the Kona but afraid it`s too small. Have a Leaf 1.0 now but used to drive an Qashqai and really missing the ride height and flexibility of an suv.

This is a wake up call for those that jumped on the Kona bandwagon when it was released. I see the Niro as the smart choice. They're essentially the same car, but the way it's been styled and packaged is much appealing in the Niro in my opinion.

IMHO, as more and more EVs (SUV or not) come out into the market, competition will take over and the next EV will likely surpass the one currently available at the dealers, prices will come down, new features and add-ons, etc. At some point, we the consumer have to simply stop waiting for the next best thing and make the move to purchase or lease the one that meets our needs and that is currently available for grabs :)

I looked through the comments, but didn’t see this. The storage under the back floor (at 18:20 or so) is where the spare tire usually goes. You could remove the inserts and put a full size spare in there. Much better than a “fix a flat” kit. The Niro PHEV puts the battery there so you are stuck with the kit.

Greetings from Dallas Texas USA. I found your videos while I was looking for info on the Kia. Soul EV which is not yet available in the United States, at least not the 2021 version which was supposed to be the 2020 version. I have a 2014 Nissan Leaf which I love driving. It's a smallest car I've ever had and the most fun car. I was thinking about selling my Volkswagen Passat TDI and going upscale with the Tesla Model 3 because of the range. However I'm a musician and I have to move equipment occasionally. The Tesla Model 3 just doesn't have the capacity for it. One of my instruments is a Dutchgrand a piano shell shaped like a small grand piano. Thanks to your measurements, which no one ever does, I was able to see that it would fit into the Kia Soul EV. Then I saw that you did measurements for the Kia Niro EV and they're essentially the same size cargo area with the seat down. So now, I realize it will fit in either car. My only complaint about the Kia Niro is a is, in the USA oh, I Tesla Model 3 sells for $39,990. But I Kia Niro EV comparably equipped sells for, $45,000. That's a lot of money extra for a Kia as opposed to a Tesla. But the Tesla is just too small. My question for you is... For overall pleasurable driving and enjoyment, which would you suggest? The Niro EV or the soul EV?

This is a direct competitor to the coming 64kwh Leaf. Size, trunk and passenger space etc is very similar. Please compare those two! I have the 30 kWh Leaf and tried the Niro plug-in. Niro felt cheaper inside and more motor whine and road noise. More tech features than the Leaf though and better warranty.

By the looks of it, the Niro is in the back bigger than the Leaf. Especially the leg room, perhaps a side by side comparison will clarify it. But you get me all exited to move from Ioniq to Niro. I reserved my spot on the waiting list in NL and by the end to the year I should get a call from my dealer. Hope to see the driving video's real soon.

I liked the shape and space management in Kia Niro hybrid, the first time I seen it in showroom , after test drive not so much. Great review Bjorn! Do the prices include taxes or incentives? Prices seen on the web are arround 54-55 Million KRW for top of line Kona/Niro. Maybe they negociate the listing prices as in Europe, but even then, really as much?. Also, whats the total height of the trunk to the roof and to that "roller thing"? Some more questions for your next videos: Does it lock the charging port when the card is locked? Whats the ground clearance? Any Rapidgate? Does it self-park? Keep the great job!!!

The make-up ligrht is probably halogen because you want high CRI (color rendering index) for checking your face. High CRI LEDs are expensive.

Combined interior seems the best to me. The screen of the Niro but the buttons etc. fro the Kona but than the open space of the Niro.

Great you get your hands on the Niro. I am driving the PHEV version, and it´s a really great car. So much space in the cabin compared to many other cars, not just Kona. Pretty sure though, that this was a top specced version, with all the bells and whistles. In Europe we will probaly see the JBL soundsystem, like the other Niro models. One important thing is missing in the EV. There are no USB for the backseats. Thats a mistake I think. But the space under the bootfloor is fantastic, it seems you can fit a spare tire, at least an emergency one, wich I prefer to have. So thumbs of for that. I look forward to see the consumption, wich will be higher compared to the Kona, just because of the weight. Now we just have to wait for prices. And how long delivery times it will have ;)

I don't think this the top specced one. It's supposed to have a Schuko in the back, induction charger and more Like Bjørn mentioned. At least it had on the CES version (prod. model, not the consept)

Schuko in the back is market decided. The Niro in US have it, like they have another headunit, that can give remote acces to the car. The EU versions don´t. I still claim this is the topspecced version, since it had sunroof, leatherseats with memory, and big sound system. All those things are from the top spec. Just check the Niro HEV and PHEV, and you will see that. But equipment are different depending on the region. In US, you can´t get the sunroof, as far I am told. I am pretty sure Bjorn in this case is misinformed, or did misunderstand something :)

I find it`s platform too compromised to accommodate a gas powertrain. It`s small - heavy and the material quality isn`t great.

@@iu2 Because the electric Kona is the same platform as the Gas Kona. The front crash structure and mounts need to be designed to accommodate a gas powertrain which generates extra weight and packaging compromises vs a vehicle that is designed to be an EV from the ground up.

Range on the latest BEVs like Kona/Niro increased a lot, which is awesome, but I am still searching for an affordable BEV with a decent trunk size, for all that STUFF you carry with wife and two kids. (#*+~?=&%$) From your video the bottom compartment on the Niro trunk looks promising to get that extra space, especially when you are able to remove all the plastic parts? Do you have any more information about how much extra space you can get by that? The extra volume (spare tire compartment plus plastic areas around) looks huge! Thanks

In my old Pajero both front seats could slide forward, then the backs could recline flat to match the rear seats and turn the whole thing into a bed. Was fantastic for long road trips, camping, moving big stuff or 'entertaining'. I scrapped all my cars for now in favour of an homemade ebike which does everything I currently need, but one day I'll get an EV and having all seats go flat would be a bonus.

I love the Niro. It looks great inside and out. I actually like it over the Kona or the Bolt. But damn I sort if wish automakers would stop with the weird shifters. Well at least this rotary one isn't as bad as the Kona one looks. It's so much easier to pull a lever while looking at the road than to try and figure out where the buttons are.

Was looking so much forward to replacing my -13 Leaf with the Niro EV I had to take a look at the hybrid. That one really disappointed me. Everything about the car is nice looking, but all black on black on top of black interior made it feel really cramped. So I thought, well, other cars will come along.. But I love what they've done with the one you show. This white/bright on black just looks so much more roomy, so maby the Niro just might be my next EV afterall.. Looking forward to more tests :)

Moreover, the PHEV version is not an honest comparison: the EV has much more interior space and a completely different front body (and also slightly different rear body panels), since the PHEV had to fit *all* the ICE parts AND a hybrid system and battery, instead of just one EV drivetrain. Just compare a few pics side by side of the PHEV and shots of the EV in this video (or press pics on the Korean KIA website).

Yes, I knew there will be some (small) differences, so surely it's not a true comparison, but still the closest thing I can get today. But I still wanted to get a first impression of space, quality, interior-layout, and as family of 5, especially backseat space and trunk. In other words, if the PHEV (in my eyes) is so bad at one or more points it's not worth the testdrive, the EV most likely wouldn't be worth it either. I was pretty sure it would be the same, except a few buttons, center console and front grill, and most likely smaller trunk because of bigger battery, charger++. But as you say, they might actually be able to free up space, rather than using more, because of the lack of the ICE-part of the hybrid-system. Anyway, really looks like it's worth the time checking out.

Many or most cars do not have handles at driver seat, typically it is only for passengers. For driver neither a hook nor a handle doesn't make a lot of sense, right?

US specs do not include the memory seats settings, drivers door pockets, or heated back seats, at least not in the latest (2022) year.
