I bought my wife one of these back in 2015, she loved it and never had any issues. I normally drive a Lexus LS430 but if I was working on the coast, which meant a drive down one of three mountain passes and return, I’d swap cars with her. Pure fun. We only sold it because we needed an SUV for our retirement plans. Fuel economy was around 7.5l on the highway, around 10 in town but could be worse if you got too excited. Seats were brilliant, fit and finish terrific and the handling/steering sublime. The looks, well everything is subjective but we thought it was stunning. Downsides, only the road noise, but then that’s probably an unfair comparison as I’m used to near silence. Mind you fresh tyres made a big improvement. My best memories of the car were two trips around Tassie, it seemed to be the perfect car for that environment.
@MisterMister58935 ай бұрын
Not close to retirement but I drive the North American cousin the Kia Forte5. We never got the 2 door version here but the Forte5 SX is very close to this in almost every facet. That's where the praises end. The gas mileage is horrendous with one reviewer saying it is as thirsty as a corvette.

Bought a GT Tech in Track Red in 2014, first one sold new in WA and we still have it. These were imported direct from Kia’s Slovakia plant in Europe and as such, they’re actually better built (IMO) than other Kia product out of Korea. The paint on the Proceed is actually standing up much better than the Stinger we also have, it seems thicker and more scratch resistant, the seat belts are thicker, the body uses thicker metal especially in the doors, and the trim is standing up incredibly well. It’s a daily driver too. It is serviced bang on time every 7500kms and has a complete service history from new. It’s done two trans-continental trips in comfort and we’ve fitted an aftermarket AVN that is integrated in the dash. It’s got genuine illuminated GT kick plates either side and all optional extras including European Kia genuine thicker floor mats. Handling is great and these love corners. Give it a good detail and it looks new…that proves the quality build. They’re great fun to drive and quite rare. Only a little over 700 were sold in Australia before the European tap was turned off. A few made it into NZ too. Great little car. The intention is to keep this one in the family. The only issue with the 1.6 litre turbo donk is the first gen direct injection. Give it a good throttle body service including valve train every now and again as the carbon build up can cause them to run a little rough at idle..do that and the idle settles again…and AK didn’t mention the digital dash…press the GT button and the speedo changes…Enjoyed your review…

Hyundai and Kia are extremely popular here in the UK. Especially the Ceed, i30, i20, Sportage and Tucson. The Kona and Niro are also very common, European manufacturers have lost a lot of market share to the Koreans and it appears to be growing. Looking into the segment though, all European manufacturers even VW price themselves in the upper regions whilst Kia and Hyundai are still reasonable but competitive in terms of kit reliability and style. People are not stupid, manufacturers can only rest on their Laurels for so long, (looking at you Audi) and that good value for money will always win customers and market share not playing on heritage, image and marketing.

I sold mine as i personally didn't like the huge doors after some time and it was a pain to avoid dinging cars parked next to me. The fuel tank was too small for long distance driving and the rear blind spot was horrendous. Mine also had a rattle from the rear boot cover. The rubber stops on the hatch were there but still allowed movement of the cover over bumps. Not many of these around. Quite rare and you'll be lucky to spot one. Didn't sell many in Australia mostly due to the fact that it was a 6 speed manual and the unknown with Kia's radical new design by Peter Shreyer.

Just one request, under "what is it" please specify the engine and transmission options (or if too many, just the engine, or just the one of your demo model); you do mention it shares the engine and platform with the Veloster Turbo but you don't say what engine it is (I guess it's a 1.6T ? ) Thanks for the videos, this one goes on my shortlist for when my wife's March gives up the ghost..

Great review! Love these cars. Surprised they got a baby seat in there, how hard is it to get the kid in?

It's definitely heaps better looking than the Hyundai equivalent, probably explains why there are not many available in the used car market
@stephenonen5989 Жыл бұрын
The equivalent would be the Veloster right?

Wow, it really does look amazing. Very reminiscent of something Peugeot would come up with. We missed out on them in the US though.

No. Peugeot is yuck, dunno how you can compare that to the Proceed lol.

If we had this car over here I would 100% consider it... but we have a different shape which doesn't look as good as the hatch, so I went with a gt86 instead.

Review a Kia Koup Turbo please :) I’m a father of 3 and we have a large MPV already.I’m deciding between the Proceed GT or Koup Turbo ….or a 2012 Is250

I am sorry, but I can't sell you one. But I had a 2017 Cerato Koup 1.6 Turbo automatic and I loved it. It is difficult to drive economically though, because it is quite sprightly (nine had the 152 kW engine) and very difficult to drive sedately.

When are you going to review the Kia Optima?

Such a bargain buy atm, few little mods such coilovers, exhaust, tune, lsd and you'll actually have a really cheap reliable hot hatch

What are the best head units to get for these that looks like the one in the video? I am getting a 2014 gt tech and love the look of a big head unit.

I wish we got three door hatches in the US. The only one we get is the Hyundai Veloster N these days.
