@bjornnyland There are two little black inlets under the front seats (both), it has a little dust cover on top, but you’ll see if you pull the seats back. Also the hvac should be on, since the air being dumped out the back is supposed to be recirculated back into the cabin for heat exchange via the front. Ideally cool air being channeled directly into those inlets may help a bit with cooling, but it may be better to improve the blower in the back maybe by pulling more air out to suck cool air in.

I strongly recommend you keep your speed in the Soul within the light green zone in the speedometer when you need to reach your next charger! It’s more efficient in that zone. Slower pace yes, but no towing required.
@ouch10118 ай бұрын
That would be dangerously slow on a motorway since the "green zone" ends at like 60kmh.
@fleecystheking8 ай бұрын
@@ouch1011 More like 80-85 actually. Well within the tolerable speed on a motorway (at least it is in Canada)
@Gazer758 ай бұрын
So glad I can't hammer it here in western Norway. Did two trips in my e-Golf of 366km 117Wh/km @ 58km/h avg. and 321km 120Wh/km @ 50km/h avg. in recent days and every time I got 40kW max. The average speed might be lower than real as I had the car on to run AC while charging, and the car counts while idle. Second trip actually has a stretch of over 20km where the average speed is like 40km/h due to narrow winding road with very limited visibility.
@ouch10118 ай бұрын
A Soul almost identical to this was my first EV. It was excellent as a city car and commuter, but this video perfectly sums up why I traded it for a Bolt. Soul has poor range and Chademo charging infrastructure is almost non-existent here in the USA. If you leave the cargo area panels in place, the battery fan will dump the heat out through 1-way vents behind the panels in the cargo area. By removing the cargo panels, it will dump the heat into the interior.
@viraeternus8 ай бұрын
I’ll have to look for it. I would rather the heat pump from the HVAC deal with the heat than have it passively cool. I guess the one way vents just don’t cool things out enough… I had thought it would dump into the interior anyway.

If yo do such deep testing of adapter. You might consider to take notebook and make logs for manufacturer. They are later find out what was cause of stopping and fix in next version. Of course not during 500km challenge. To prepare logging it takes time, i know. It would ruin your 500km test completely.

If you have a chance can you test the classic Ionic facelift, with bigger battery. Will be interesting to see if there is a significant difference in total time for 500km. Other cars may be interesting: first gen Kona with the small battery, i3 90ah, e-golf with the bigger battery, e-up with the bigger battery.

The 38kwh Ioniq was slower than the 28kwh on the 1000km test, though it was colder? Results are in the spreadsheet in the description
@ashton96998 ай бұрын
Facelift has slightly lower efficiency, and significantly worse charging curve.
@piscario758 ай бұрын
If you don't hammer facelift Ioniq then you can significantly reduce charging time. Keep it to 150Wh/km and you need to charge less than when Bjorn was going at 200Wh/km during 1000km challenge. For 500km challenge, 39kWh vs 64kWh charging needed by removing 36kWh start charge used on first leg. Should be able to get close to 6 hours if travelling at 100-105kph and 2 stops. Warmer weather would also help.
@arjenhoogcarspel41938 ай бұрын
Thank you for the nice test. Unfortunately the adapter wasn't playing ball. Would have loved to see it with full 175A charging. You can find an image of the cooling system. It takes the air from under both the front seats and dumps it out the back (through the bottom of the car). I you run hvac into the footwell it should work best.
@ashton96998 ай бұрын
Doors and windows closed while charging, blast the AC. It will allow the cabin air, which the battery is pulling in for cooling, to be as cold as possible. Same with Ioniq 28.

@ianemery29258 ай бұрын
If you keep to 100kmh; you should get better range; I think the issue is the chubby nose, rather than the windscreen, which does have a decent rake to it. I average around 120KM a charge, from 26.1KWh; with ~20km range left when I chicken out and stop for a charge. The bugginess of the adapter is the reason I havent ordered one; there are lots of locations with no CHAd chargers, and I dont want to roll up to a CCS2 only location with 8% left and find the adapter wont work. As others have said, the inlets are under the front seats; if you have anything in the footwell that might be blocking them, that might be the cause of the over heat issue. Probably the best thing you could have done was run the aircon on min temp, and max fan speed, into the footwell.

Hello sir, I haver a question/idea/request. Could you make a tutorial on how to do a battery degradation test for anyone?! You are kind enough and testing various vehicles and showing us results, but if we want to buy a used EV, it would be amazing to have a step by step tutorial on how to verify any EV we may want to purchase and see the status of the battery. Sellers will try to make it sound perfect, zero degradation, excellent condition, but we know that isn't true and knowing how and what tools to use would be amazing, in a short and concise video explaining steps that even kids can understand. No apps, no other way to identify like in a shorter period of time.? I don't think a seller would agree for a like 300-400 km drive. Because clearly as the time passes, all the new EVs from a few years ago will be sold and thus a huge used EV market will appear, especially with the newer EV models (2020 era).

So my Kia soul EV 2015 has only 60'000km but us already 9 years old. in a matter of 2 months the SOH dropped from 91% to 50% (while never charging above 80% or going below 20% except extremely rarely). This is ridiculous because the Car is in perfect condition except the battery pack but i have to pay 38'000CHF for a new battery pack? More then the orginial price and more then a new Kia EV with double the battery pack size? Almost looks like fraud to push me not to replace it.

50 kW session is about 4 minutes slower than 60-65 kW session. So if I waste more than 4 minutes on handshake/instability problems, then the adapter is not worth it. Plus, it seems like too fast charging introduced more heat which the car had problems getting rid off.
