Great tip about the parking brake lever location, I've read several reviews and not one have mentioned this, a key point when driving for the first time - will save a lot of "WTF is the handbrake???"

@@shinekthomas1979 yes very happy so far averaging 75mpg after 3200kms was up at nearly 102mpg but took it on round trip in HEV mode between cork and dublin the other week and it dropped my average still very happy with it.

We heard the paddle shifters are for the transmission, but do they contribute to the regenerative braking at all ? If not how is the regen braking work?

You will get the quoted EV range, if you use the "-ve" paddle shifter for braking, instead of the brake pedal. How do you guys get to review these vehicles when you know so little about how they work?

With “ info systems “ a bit difficult I’d have thought. A phone “ distracts” but a mini TV to be scrolled through apparently doesn’t.

@@brianbickle7395 If you watch the report, there are a couple of occasions when he is talking to the camera & both hands are off the wheel. (at this point he is NOT reaching for a phone or for any other screen!)

The brakes feel dodgy because it's a hybrid with a 6 speed auto gearbox. You are supposed to use the down paddle shifter for braking, so you maximum recharging of the battery. The brake pedal should only be used when you are bringing the vehicle to an absolute stop, or in an emergency stopping situation. If you use the down paddle shifter, the gearbox changes down through the gears, and causes the motor ( acting as a generator ) to spin faster, and recharge the battery more. THAT is the beauty about the KIA / Hyundai approach to Hybrids.

I live in Australia, and KIA won't bring the PHEV Sportage to Australia. I love my 2016 Sportage, and desperately want to upgrade to the new PHEV Sportage. Come on KIA!!

Also, you noted that the peak power ( or torque ) output doesn't feel as much as the specs suggest it should be. This is because you are adding the peak figures for an electric motor and a petrol engine together. The electric motor achieves maximum torque at very low revs, whereas the petrol engine achieves maximum torque at very high revs. The way the motor and the engine are combined in the KIA means they will NEVER both be achieving maximum outputs at the same time, so you CANNOT simply add them together to achieve a total maximum figure. But they will provide a much more even total output, across the rev range. The TRUE MAXIMUM power ( and/or torque ) output(s) will be somewhere near the average of the engine and motor figures, roughly speaking.

I'm sorry but this car is bloody awful, I've had mine for 2 months, covered 2000mls and have averaged 630mpg (it's regularly plugged in), this is the only plus point of this car. The overall quality is terrible, the accelerator pedal feels like a Fisher Price product, the infotainment is laggy and full of irritations, the cruise control is comical in it's ability to track a car 150 yards away and slow you down, the collision detection is effing irritating, so many more faults I could be here all day...
