I have a 2020 Stinger GT. It has never had a rattle in the hatch area but when I first drove it, I noticed a clunk from the rear when driving over some types of bumps. I eventually determined it was the hatch moving against the latch. The solution was simple, there are two rubber stoppers on the hatch which are adjustable. I simply adjusted them outwards about 2 millimetres which created a tighter closing fit between the hatch and the edge of the boot. This fixed the problem with no further clunks.

Dude!! I’ve had my 22 GtLine for less than a week and this was driving me nuts! Was contemplating the washer thing when I stumbled across your tape trick…you are in fact, THE KING! Damn rattle is just about totally gone…now I’m hearing other stuff jiggling in the right side passenger doors…or is that a twisted voice in my head. Thanks brudda!

I took my Stinger to the dealership and they looked at it and told me the Hatch itself way mis-aligned from the factory and that they had adjusted it for me and should fix the noise. Nope... was still there. The electrical tape worked perfectly!!! Thank you so much

I used to drive a 2005 Forester XT that had the same rattle. It took me months to figure it out, and came up with this same solution... Fast forward 15 years and the second I heard that rattle in my 22 Stinger GT2, I knew exactly what it was. Blows me away that a car of this caliber can have such a stupid oversight... The tape didn't last very long in my XT, so it's definitely not a permanent solution.

That was a bad rattle!! Tape will last for a bit, but after confirming that's the issue, adjust it properly. If everything else lines up well, just adjust the trunk striker. Flat screwdriver to pop off the oval cover in the back of the trunk, alignment marks top-bottoms-sides, T40 torx to loosen 2 bolts, adjust and hold in place while tightening may take a couple attempts, torque to 26Nm/20lb-ft, check that it closes properly, go for a drive, readjust if needed or pop the cover back in, and done. Minor clunk on a very bad road near us on 2023 GT2 was easily solved adjusting down about 0.5mm/0.010" (actually just put it back to lined up with reference marks).

2022 GT1. I’ve tried washers, tape and running the little knobs out. Just about every combination you can think of with those. I still get a creak over certain bumps, more so at slower speeds. My 2018 GT was rock solid. You’d think they would have this figure out by now.

I feel you, I've got the same thing. Too much washers, no bump noise but then you get wind whistle. Interior/sunroof creaks on bumps, the most annoying is the door seals creaking/clicking from sticking on bumps. I've put conditioner on the seals a few times since I've gotten it and it always comes back. Great car, annoying daily quirks.

My car had a similar issue it would rattle but only if i would go over a speed bump or any uneven road not just driving. I decided to buy the hockey tape since you said it was stronger than electrical tape and it worked for me. I have to say i really like the looks on my 2023 stinger gt line but the built quality is really bad. I have 2 major issues with the car the trunk that i fixed and no one looks at that so i don’t mind that is cover in tape the 2nd is a MAJOR pain the A/C is making this weird grinding noise and based on all the search I done they have had this issue since 2019 models. I gone to the dealer 3 times and either A they pretend to be deaf af or B the stupid car Doesn’t make the sound when am there. I have showed them countless of time the fix based on every video and forum I seen that all have said the fix was the blower fan bearing and they tell me they can’t just remove parts based on forum post -.- take into account this is a brand new 2023 stinger with 1.3k miles only I was looking at keeping this car after my lease ended in 3 years but it’s not looking good. Car itself looks nice runs good but they need to get better with the built quality.

I fixed it with the combination of 3m tape on the latch and 5/16 washers (2 on each side). The problem has been resolved. Total cost $6.

I always thought that the rattle could be coming from the trunk privacy cover. If it’s really the latch, perhaps you can remove it and dip it in some plastic-dip, the rubberized kind used on hand tools.

Actually, I do believe that is another problem some people have too. I was reading a Facebook thread about it the other day. Luckily mine seemed to be tied to the metal latch. I think it’s mainly about making the hatch less mobile when it is latched down as their seems to be some wiggle room in there.

I tried that tape method 2 months ago and it didnt work for me. The washer method worked on those bump stops gave me the best results.

From what I’ve read, it seems the severity level of the rattle is different with every car or not there at all. I tried some pretty thin washers too while I was experimenting with all this and they just wouldn’t allow the trunk to sit down all the way flush with the car so it looked like it was popped open all the time. I’ve also heard of some people using hockey tape in the more severe cases since it’s a bit stronger than electrical tape.

Basically, 99.9% of Hyundai-Kia vehicles has this. As for the electric tape, yes it does work, but the lock will torn the tape when you close the hatch. There are some rubbery pieces like shock absorbers or something at the edge of the hatch on the inner side that are adjustable by screwing with hand, try to see if it’ll work for you

I never had this in any of my other 3 Kia’s and my parents have also had 3 Kia’s that haven’t had this so I’m not sure where you got that “99.9%” from. Had the tape in for over a month now and no tears yet, I open the trunk just about every day too. I’ve adjusted those telescoping rubber feet and it doesn’t help and actually if you go too far out with them it causes the trunk to no longer sit flush with the back of the car and makes it look popped open all the time.

If I tell people I drive a Kia they immediately get this mindset that I’m driving a trash can on wheels, and while that may have been true 20 years ago about Kia it’s definitely not now. Like I said, my family has had 7 total Kia’s so far and not a single one had a major issue.

@@KDMCurt I’m on my 3rd Kia. Two optimas and now Stinger. Definitely was NOT an issue in my two previous KIAs. As a matter of fact.. 174,000k on 2006 optima.. 66k on 2015 optima.. 37k on my 2019 Stinger GTS… never had one mechanical issue.. only brakes & batteries(not stinger). So glad I did NOT by the Honda Accord back in 2019!! 🙌

Your just needs a thick coat of grease on the latch and problem solved. The electrical tape is doing the same job, but grease would last longer.

So I called in about it and the answer was “since there is no current recall on that for this car we can’t really do anything about it.” I’ve searched on quite a few threads and in Facebook groups for answers and some peoples dealerships act like they don’t even know this is a problem.

My dealership wanted $220 diagnostic fee if Warranty didn't cover it, which I have bumper to bumper, but apparently they couldn't guarantee it being covered. A complete joke I have talked to Manager saying this is a common problem with this model and should be a recall. He could give 2 shits what I had to say. I tried the tape it didn't work for me but did the washers and it seems to work so far. We shall see.
