Love your work Wildkard - your rankings video has generated some good discussion. However there are inconsistencies in your rules that you have applied (and said so in the comments) . Correct me if I am wrong with any of my comments below: - Your rankings system is based ONLY on 2024 results - You had a cut off for amount of matches played to avoid inflation of rankings so excluded some teams as a result. You don't actually state the minimum matches played. - RE Championship and Pacific Nations Cup are classed as T2, the rest are T3. So: - You remove Germany and Netherlands because they didnt play enough games (otherwise their ranking would be inflated as you mentioned on video -and in the comments) . Netherlands are one of the dark horses to nab a 2027 RWC Spot who pushed Georgia and nearly beat Spain only for a missed kick at the end . Germany beat Belgium this year. They each played 6 games in 2024 (5 RE Championship plus 1 November test each - Netherlands v Chile and Germanyv UAE) - You include Poland because they did play enough matches (7 total) yet didnt win a single game in the RE Championship finished 8th, get relegated then inflate the back end of their 2024 season in the RE Trophy division (T3) with victories against 2 x T3 teams. - You include Samoa who only played 6 games in 2024...... If you are going to include Samoa (who played 6 tests) , Poland (who got relegated but played in the same competition as Germany and Netherlands) , Belgium (who finished 7th in RE Championship but played quite a few friendly tests outside of the RE Championship) then surely you have to include ALL teams from said competitions you apply results to ? If you count results against teams that ARE NOT in your rankings (ie Poland v Netherlands and Belgium v Germany) then you should count all teams , not some or exclude the results against teams you have not included from the same competiton. If you are going to exclude Germany and Netherlands for only playing 6 games, then you have to exclude Samoa.... they only played 6 games. If you are going to do this again, here are some suggestions to refine your ranking system: - Any competition (outside of T1) that is a direct qualifier to the world cup should be classed as T2. RE Championship, Africa Cup, Asian Cup, South America and Pacific Nations Cup. They already are by WR standards, but in your current rules only RE Championship and Pacific Nations Cup. - Assess all teams in said competition who play against each other otherwise you have teams like Poland and Belgium included , who finished 8th and 7th respectively in their competition.

In the Six Nations: italy won 2, drew 1, lost 2, and finished fifth. Scotland won 2, lost 3, were beaten by Italy, and finished fourth. This is all because of this ridiculous bonus point systems. In fact, the rules are that a nation that gets a grand slam is given some extra points to avoid the even more ridiculous possibility of a grand slam nation finishing second.
@Ann-l7xКүн бұрын
We need to start talking about the first 24 teams, and not just the first 20. Since 24 teams will be in the next world cup. In fact, maybe even the first 30 to follow the up/down of the teams vying for inclusion. Other than that, agree with your analysis.

@Wildkard With tier 2 getting more game time with tier 1 nations, it would be interesting to see how this influences the rankings in a year's time. Eg Portugal vs SA. In the past we would have had a test series of, say, 3 Ireland matches against SA, but this year we had 2 Irish + 1 Portugal. I think Georgia is touring SA next year. Which is great for tier 2 nations, and will bring down the top scores somewhat, I imagine.

Scotland would happily have came for 2 tests in Australia rather than Americas. It would have made the Wallabies year a lot worse though while still being same for Scotland. Problem is only 4 actual SH nations to tour in our summer and 6 Nations up north, so 2 lose out and Scotland and Italy have been those nations recently. Arguably the Wallabies padded their stats by playing Wales 3 times this year. Keep it up.
