Good tutorial. Just to mention, that you stop the bass on its highest tone, not at its lowest.

Sometimes If I like the kick but it seems to dull I’ll just turn the pitch up and make sure the shape/punch doesn’t change too much. Sometimes that simple trick can work

I feel your distinction between newer surgical sidechaining approaches opposed to less sculpted techniques but the 90s weren't devoid of it. the Alesis 3630 was released in 1989 and by the mid-90s was available at pawn shops for almost nothing, whose availability/influence can be compared to that of the tb-303 (though perhaps a bit less sexy)

for sure! sidechaining has been around for a much longer time and also been used for kick and bass in 90s dance music. but I believe in the early house era (like early and mid 80s) it hasnt been used

Thanks for the video, it’s good content. Calm and informative. Couple Q, what’s that scope and why people in comments are saying ‘he’s back’ 🧐

heyy, glad you liked the video!! :) So unfortunately it's been a year since I've last uploaded and before that I've also had my struggles to frequently upload content 🙈. I had a few moments where I managed to upload more videos and was very happy to see that quite a few people seemed to find them helpful 🥲 was just tough to keep the ball rolling. BUT Im very motivated to keep things going, especially reading these comments and such :D

@@OleansHouseyour tutorials are so Well explained and usefull. Instead of showing how to make x-y-z sound or artist you actually explain concepts you can apply generally! Did you do any processing on the bass sound other than the sidechaining?

You're using headphones to mix... Whats your view on the harman curve target while using headphones?
@OleansHouse
@OleansHouse 2 күн бұрын
Heey! so I mainly use speakers to mix, but will definitely also use my headphones. For Videos I will probably always use headphones, because it saves me a lot of time in postproduction haha. cause the mic will also pick up the speakers and its a bit annoying to talk over the speaker sound or have to adjust it later on. For your actual question: In my personal experience Ive found many cases where EQ correction for headphones seems to have a positive impact on the balance and mixing/listening experience. But for me this mainly seems to be the case for lower to midpriced headphones. When I tried some correction on the pair I work with it never seemed to improve the sound, so I chose to work with them as they are :)
