Mother Russia used the cape to force Hit Girl in a chokehold that would have killed her, had she not decided to try and use the adrenaline on Hit Girl. That's where the luck part comes in. I get that she assumes it's poison meant for her, but she didn't need to inject Hit-Girl with it. She already had her in a death grip. Could have just throw the needle away, choke Hit-Girl into subciousness and then shoot her in the face, just to make sure. But yea; I guess heroes gotta win somehow.

A cape can catch fire a lot more easy then skintight clothing, forcing you into a situation that is never going to be favorable. -They can get snagged on a loose nail or other protruding object at the worst possible time, thus leaving you vulnerable during a time when you can't afford to be, as shown in The Incredibles. If Hit Girl could have gotten loose from the cape in time, she would have done so. She didn't, so either she was too late or she simply didn't think about it. Whatever the case, the fact remains that her cape disadvantaged her and when it backfired she couldn't do anything to prevent it from happening. Mother Russia didn't need the needle, but I will concede that is her own hubris that caused her to use it on Hit Girl. Defeating the enemy with their own weapon is indeed within her character and is a more humiliating defeat, as you point out. Mother Russia is boastful and arrogant. She wanted to be able to say: I killed Hit Girl with her own devices. She was no match for me even with her weapons. You've got a point there.

***** Well, Batman is an exception. His cape is part of his set up. It is made of a fireresistant, flexilble material that is strong enough to support his weight. He can use it to glide around to break high falls or just to get around easier. There is also the advantage of being able to hide weapons in your cape. You could easily hide a switchblade or other gadget in there that you can pull out in a cinch. However most heroes/villains just use it as a part of their costume that serves no purpose. Superman, Shazam, Dr Doom; Thor etc. Their capes serve no purpose. For them, or for people with no actual powers such as in the Kick Ass universe, they'd be better off without them for reasons already stated.

Xylarxcode Yeah, Batman is the only superhero I can think of where his cape is not just merely a part of his costume and actually serves a function. It's a gadget itself, in a way. That's what makes Batman stand out. His suit is not just something he wears to protect his identity and/or wears as a sort of "uniform", it serves a function. It not only protects his identity, but also physically protects himself, as well as strikes fear into his enemies and intimidates them. Various parts of the costume also function individually as gadgets to aid him in his battles.

BankaiIchigo12345 I'd vote for Beatrix. She is an established elite assassin with way more experience. Because of the nature of the movies Beatrix faces people who are all trained professionals where most of the people Hit Girl fights are far less experienced than her. Beatrix kills three other elite assassin during her movie. That's not counting GoGo and Bill. She also kills all of them while out of practice after waking up from a years long coma. I'm sure it would be an amazing fight though.
