I sell these at a VW dealership in St. Louis. You DO NOT need to unlock the car first. You walk up to LEFT side of the rear hatch. Sweep your foot underneath and step back. That is all. The car CANNOT BE RUNNING when you do this, and the key must be on your person.

u don’t have to unlock it, that’s the whole purpose of keyless access

After kicking you have to step back avoiding get hit by the tailgate. Just kick and step back and it should open.

just bought a new 2021 Atlas. Yep, you have to kick in the middle and step back. It's a safety thing to avoid hurting ppl.

there isn’t a kick feature you have to move your leg horizontally under the bumper.

It’s supposed to be locked cause when you’re holding bags you can’t get the key hence the kick function

You do t have to unlock it. That’s the point. Your hands are full. You can’t mess with a remote. The trick with mine is you have to step back far enough to let it know it’s safe to open.

So mine does the same. Worked great at the dealership and now it’s a crapshoot if it works lol. Part of it is needing to stand a certain substance away as it can sense if the door is going to hit you

Yes I'm pretty sure that feature only comes on the SEL Premium Tiguan.

Cody Fletcher Agree. 100% no need to unlock the car, otherwise why ppl do not just hold the button to open it. from your review, i assume after you put your foot in, you need to keep a safety distance from the car to allow the car open the door or you keep away from the car and make an awkward kick, lol

I have a 2021 Elegance and the book says it will easy close with a foot wiggle, it doesn't, it will open only. While I'm here, the voice command doesn't work either, apparently I have to pay over £100 for the privilege. Well they can stuff that, having paid for the top of the range I'm not paying more to get a button to work! Very bad ethics/ethos

I have 2020 Atlas Cross Sport and this feature does not work well at all. Opens 1 in like 29 tries. I have this feature in other autos and it works fine. For some reason VW vehicles this does not work well at all. Especially when you really need it.

you do NOT unlock it first... if you had to unlock it first then its pointless having the feature cos you might as well just open it with the key fob.

The car needs to be locked!?! you need to stand back! It's a keyless feature - so you can open the tailgate Without touching the keyfob in case you have your hands full. My 11 year old made a video showing you guys how to do it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rXWQYoiwnpemhNk

Come on fellas it’s really not that difficult lol...simply place your foot in the center directly under the VW emblem...don’t hold your foot there. Just push your foot underneath and bring it back. Don’t keep it there. I have the same feature on my Passat. Works like a charm every time

Oh my f so f'ng stupid you need to back away a few feet for safety... they don't want you right by the hatch going up to be hit. Walk up. Swipe foot under. Stand back. No need to unlock. Simple
