I have been doing kickboxing 17 years and I am a black belt with quite a few amateur fights winning all of them and am looking to go professional. It’s a lot of hard work but it is 10000% worth it👍🏻

i recently graded to my blue after 4 whole years of training because my gym has adopted a longer grading system and black is roughly 6-7 years for black

Well done for finally making it to blue belt! 👏 Yeah that's true, some academies have different system's. But a longer grading system isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just means that tou HSBC more time to perfect your techniques. Belt grading is usually just in place as something to measure your progress and provide goals to aim for, but in the end its all about the tune and effort that you've put into training to perfect tour skills. Anyway, a huge pat on your back, and keep it up 🙂🥊👊🏻

@@EmilBlueMan never too old mate I did it all through school and then took a break for a couple of years then got back into it for 2 more years then took a massive 8 year break and only recently I have got back into it again (I’m 29) and all the skills do come back relatively easily….my tip would be to do some moderate stretches at home 5 times a week for a couple of weeks before your first class or you will be extremely sore! 👊🏽

@@johnnyboykickboxer8302 Sure, but what does that entail, if you don't mind explaining. I'm really interested in your style of kickboxing, but I really have no way of knowing what more difficult means. If you could explain it something like "Yellow/white belt is jab, round kick" or something, then I would have an idea of what a kickboxing curriculum is. But as of now, all I know is that you train, you get belts, and you train more. Thank you for taking the time to read my comment, and thank you again if you have the time to fulfill my request.

Hey @@TaoistSwordsman, there are only a certain number of moves to learn in kickboxing (compared to Jiu Jitsu for example), and these are usually variations of punches ( jab, cross, hook, uppercut etc) and kicks (roundhouse, hook kick, spinning hook kick, side kick, teep etc), also elbows and knees if the academy practices elements of Muay Thai. Most of the moves can be learned fairly early on in your kickboxing training, so the various levels of difficulty within the curriculum usually consist of various complexities of sets of moves. For example, as a white/yellow stripe belt you may only practice sets that only consist of a few moves, these could be punches, kicks, or both. An example one of the sets could be: Part 1 jab, cross, hook Part 2 cross, hook, cross Part 3 jab, hook, cross) Then as you progress, the sets will steadily become more complex with more and more moves (a favourite one of mine at the academy I go to is Base 18 - containing 18 moves). One of the most challenging things can be to not only remember the sets that you’re currently working on at your grade, but also being able to remember all of the sets that that you have learned from previous grades. You may no longer get to practice those previous sets as often once you’re curriculum advances, but you’re expected to recall any of these at any time and you may be asked to execute these during grading for example. Hope this helps and good luck 🙂

I have been doing kickboxing for 12 years and I am 21 now. I am currently 1st degree of black belt since I was 16. For the grading exams in my association, it's more difficult in the physical part for male adults. I am a part-time coach, and my helper, age 49, male, blue-red belt. To promote for the red belt, he needs to complete 40 reverse kick within 1 minute. However, with his leg injury, it is very difficult for him. Even if I know how to do that within the time limit, he cannot do that as his leg pain restricted his movement.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Yes it can be quite challenging when progressing to the higher grades, especially for someone with an injury like the guy you're talking about. He's done extremely well to get the grade that he's at with a leg injury. Hopefully if his leg heals and he keeps practicing, he will one day be awarded the red belt 🙂

I understand the point, but in my opinion I think that belts are use for a marketing image, I know that it has its good sides, it can be very good to motivate young children, but that type of belts system in a modern martial sport has a macdojo aura, they don't use belts systems in boxing for example and belts in kickboxing is a new thing. Just an opinion.
@johnnyboykickboxer8302
@johnnyboykickboxer8302 2 жыл бұрын
Good point. They also don't use a belt grading system in Muay Thai. But a lot of kickboxing academies do use the belt grading system, and it can be a very useful tool to measure ability and increase motivation (especially for those new to kickboxing). Also its a good way to identify at what stage others in class are in their kickboxing journey. When asked to partner up for sparring it usually makes sense to partner with someone a similar grade with the same ability and skills. Having said that, it can definitely benefit someone new to occasionally partner with someone further along in their journey as they can often pick up new techniques and nuances from someone more experienced, just along as the more experienced student acknowledges that their partner is less experienced 🤔
