Well done, James, for capturing the sound so well. And well done Robin for producing yet another very pretty and subtle piece, to add to his 'Levee Waltz', 'Sweet Olive' and 'Thoughts' that the band also have in their repertoire. Great to hear a jazz band paying such delicate attention to dynamics - and to have yet another tune in the not-often-used key of G. The structure (please help me if I'm wrong) seems to be: 00:09 : INTRODUCTION - 4 bars 00:16 : THEME A - 16 bars 00:45 : THEME B - 16 bars (a theme that seems to owe something to Bob Carleton's 1918 composition 'Ja Da') 01:15 : INTRODUCTION - the 4 bars played again 01:23 : THEME A improvised on by Craig 01:53 : THEME B improvised on by Barnabus, with Craig and Shaye supporting the Middle Four 02:22 : THEME C - Shaye plays this 'darker' G minor 16-bar melody (8 bars repeated) but ending on a D7th to lead into THEME A (note the offbeats in support, the tremolos from Jason and the strong line played by Todd) 02:52 : THEME A - the 16 bars improvised over by Shaye 03:23 : THEME B (the 'Ja Da'), with Craig taking the lead 03:53 : THEME C - the dark theme again (note Jason's tremolos once more) 04:23 : THEME B - the 'Ja Da', with lusty ensemble over the 16 bars 04:53 : CODA - 4 bars similar to the Introduction, with rallentando.

Robin is a wonderful composer. I love all of his works. And it is unbelievable that a percussion player composed such a lovely melody.

I think, Dave, that - like other members of the band - he also plays other instruments, though not in public.

@@PopsCoffee yes it is unbelievable how many instruments every member of this band can play. Shaye of course are playing so many instruments. But Barnabus and Todd can play banjo and guitar too. Barnabus is a fine singer too. Todd has learned string bass during the time they have recorded their album "Blue Chime Stomp". Max has played the string bass too and is a fine singer too. Jason played guitar and banjo both on a very high level. I guess he is a singer too. Craig played a lot of Reed instruments. Different sax and clarinets. But I mean he played other instruments too. Erika playing guitar with her band and writing the most tunes for them. She has played not only the bass drum. I have seen her playing the washboard too. And the most composed their own pieces. (Shaye, Barnabus, Erika, Robin, Max and Craig)

Yes, Dave. I bet most of them play reasonably well in private on piano. Robin can play string instruments. I'm sure it helps to be able to play a 'chord' instrument as well as a melody instrument, as it gives a deeper understanding of what is going on in the music.

I thought the same about the guitar, Daniel, but then spotted it in an old street busking video. I think Greg has (or has had) many guitars, including at least three different resonator guitars. This might be the prettiest, but is maybe not new.

I thought the same about Greg's guitar but now am less sure. If you look at videos over a span of time he has played at least four different guitars, maybe five. And why not? That's how he makes a living, and guitars aren't extremely expensive. (Unlike a tuba or sousaphone for several thousand dollars.) As for Craig's green lid, I think it shows up in an early video, too.

Thanks, I used a separate audio recorder placed directly in front of the band and edited the audio track into the video. This also kept down the street noise. This was the first time I've used it on the street. Now to solve the problem of lens flare from the car headlights.

Todd has gone beyond the tradition and now invents harmonies, countermelodies and rhythms that are appropriate to whatever is being played. And he is now equally good at lip slurs/slides and valve slides, even over large intervals.

Hi Shaye. A bit of a problem I'm afraid. The brunette has insisted she and I should get married so you and I Shaye, I'm sad to say, now can't happen. I did ask if I could keep my crush on you and she has agreed but alas she baulked at you and I meeting - I was quite hopeful she'd agree as she is usually pretty good about my secret crushes. This dog is still a pup and can be rambunctious. Barnabus' old dog, Tupelo, could be left without a leash. I am sure once this dog is trained he will be also.
