Seems like the perfect time to do another run of these, with the new Microsoft Flight Simulator being so popular.

Maybe it will prompt the big manufacturers to produce something. They are able to make pretty decent racing wheels with FFB for only two or three hundred notes.

Compare this to what people are paying $500 for these days. A top of the line FFB driving wheel runs $1500-$2000. The price point is right where I thought it'd be. They just need to come up with a joystick!

Guys, you have a great idea on your hands and you're executing it nicely, but as stated already, 1K will be a bit over typical budgets (though, i do believe you have a market at flight schools) Btw, the SMT machine in part of the clip is Assembleon Topaz XII - I work for Assembleon as applications engineer, I was pleasantly surprised to see it as part of your clip.

$1000 for a yoke is significantly unaffordable for the average simmer. It would be a very nice change to see someone or some company be able to come up with a sincerely affordable force feedback flight yoke for the average simulator buff. Right now, Saitek and CH products have cornered the market with their quality and truly affordable yokes, pedals and throttles. I simply do not see anyone else who is able or willing to do better for similar cost or less.

Its not affordable for casual gaming but for sumone that is super into flight simulators and say they only really play Xplane 11 FSX and no other games and maybe put 500+ hours a year into that then $1000 for a Yoke is very affordable. Flight yokes and FFB wheels for simulators that are on a par or very close to what pro simulators and race teams use will always be much more expensive than something that's designed to sell to a mass market for more "gaming" type use. Thats not to say some of the cheaper mass market joysticks and FFB wheels are bad, some are increadable and offer amazing value for money ! The thing to keep in mind however is that though a gaming Yolk and a Gaming wheel might look the same as a high end Yolk and wheel the mechanics can be massively different and the market much smaller which is what then causes the price brackets to be different. I do think its a real shame though with flight simulators that we have not had a good FFB joystick for ages , the microsoft sidwinder FFB joysticks were amazing and no one makes anything like them now and they were WAY more than what most people want for a flight sim joystick and cost under £200 At least with FFB steering wheels the Logitech G29 and the T300 are really good devices for the money and really connect you to the game even if the forces are not realistic they are awesome and utterly transform driving sims. In the end I think it comes down to market size risk and huge up front costs when it comes to hardware I think in the 90s Flight sims some how hit really wide market but it sort of died down in the late 2000s. I do think VR might help push new companies to do sub $300 FFB joysticks though so have to look out for that !

Many of you are fully aware by now about Iris Flight Dynamics and their "pro consumer level" full control loading flight simulation control yoke. The project was initially funded by a KickStarter campaign with a whopping USD $86,000 pledge by supporters. The downside? The retail cost was far too high for the average flight simulation enthusiast with a now $2,000 price tag. Well even if you were able to pony up the cash, don't bother. At present, not only is the product no longer available for order, but some customers who placed paid orders months ago still have yet to receive theirs. A look on the forum also shows a lot of displeased customers many of which have requested the process of refunds. For those who have received their yokes, complaints range from functionality problems to lack of communication & support to poor cosmetic issues. The latest information is a response from a member of Iris ensuring the products have restarted production (they stopped?) and they are working hard to fill all current orders. That said, they also state that the company is going to be getting out of the manufacturing business until a manufacturing deal is reached which could be several months away. Till such deal is reached (with possibly whom?) no new orders are going to be taken. Iris reaffirms they will continue to build all current orders in-house and will cease production afterward. For $2,000 a pop, is it really worth all this trouble? Certainly, the technology is impressive. Thanks to ADX reader James Long for the tip on this information. You can take a look at what's transpiring in their forum via the source link below. ADX Update: IRIS Dynamics' Founder and CTO Patrick McFadden responds to ADX readers and sheds some light on the situation. It's a very honest and humble response to the issues users have been having and I am confident the team has and is taking the appropriate steps to correct the current issues and continue working toward delivering a quality product to end-users.

That's not true. I'm a real world pilot, and the further you pull on the yoke, the more resistance you get. These guys are going about it correctly, but have to get the costs down.
@harrisonerbe45807 жыл бұрын
Stev A ok thats fine but that could be achieved through a simple spring you dont need to buy a firce feed back yolk fir this effect there are even types of springs that give you more resistance the more you compress the so say what you will but my opinion is still valid

A spring wouldn´t resemble the increaing force on the elevators/ailerons the higher the airspeed gets.

@AquaStevae7 жыл бұрын
$500 is TOO high. This is simmers we are talking about. We complain about $30 planes. It needs to be less than $200 or it will not be mainstream. The Saitek yoke works perfectly well, with a few little mods. Being able to pick one up for $120 used in great shape will always be preferable to a $500 product. There will be the extremist, who will willingly pay that kind of money, but they are NOT the mainstream guys. And they are not enough to support a company doing this. If they can't reach common market prices, they will fail. It's as simple as that.
@nez30095 жыл бұрын
I bet the entire flight sim community will be happy to pay that kind of money to use something in a $50.00 sim program.

Great Idea, BUT it reminds me back in 2004 how the SPORT title was going to bring affordable flying??? Projected $60000 which ended up being closer to $200000. You SHOULD NOT use the word affordable because that is NOT in your project. ITS EXPENSIVE but if its that good only the ones who see its value are going to buy it. The narrative " its affordable" is just not reality. You need to be honest and not falsely portray the cost to get people involved. Airplanes are expensive and good simulation is the same.
