Actually, the Chinese original would be the closest, since they know the cultural nuances and contexts shown in the novel, manhua, and audio drama (plus many donghua and cdramas will have crossover voice-work with any audio drama adaptations). Even if we take censorship into consideration, the English dub is still dubbing the censored donghua as well, so it’s not exactly possible for anyone to say the English dub can capture more of the spirit than the original Chinese audio. 🤔 To add to that, I’ve seen people treat Chinese VAs poorly sometimes and/or misunderstand Chinese to the point of thinking that Chinese VAs aren’t as emotive as Japanese/English VAs (when in reality it’s just differences in language), but Chinese _is_ still the original language. And all the people working on the Chinese original version of the donghua would obviously know the language enough to be able to follow the original novel and its other _also_ Chinese adaptations. And finally, unfortunately I can’t easily find your comment as that believable when you’re stating “the English dub is how it’s supposed to be” without any evidence or proof like you’re an authority of some kind. You’re just one person, as I am just one person, and it reads as your opinion-which I can respect, but let’s not forget this is still a dub. And if the _Scissor Seven_ and _Genshin_ and even _Link Click_ dubs have shown me anything, it’s that non-Chinese-speaking fans of Chinese media often do not know enough about Chinese-or even respect it enough-to speak on the performance and “trueness” of Chinese VAs. That does suck, and I think it would help convey your point if you try not to fall under that kind of tone, as makes for a less great takeaway. 😔

But I agree with you on most part, the closest is obviously the chinese version and to be really honest I don't like the dub that much, I respect the voice actors very much and I think they did a fantastic job, but I still prefer Chinese because it's more accurate to the characters and also less exagerrated. It's not that Chinese VAs arent expressive, it's that English ones are overexpressive, it doesn't have the same natural tone the chinese version has.

Tbf I think part of that has to do with being able to understand the language. If you know Chinese, some of the voice lines in Chinese also sound quite sultry and silky, just not in that deep way that English often has. 😆

@kuku8846 I don't know, I can definitely pick up seduction in Spanish and Japanese yet I don't speak either of them. Mandarin is naturally a harsh language so it's my least favorite for romance.

@@livinglife5295 See that’s where we come down to bias and also experience _with_ a language. 😂 I assume you’ve watched plenty of anime so you’re more accustomed to Japanese, and Spanish is far closer to English than Chinese is, and you clearly know English! As someone who’s familiar with both Chinese and English, I can hear seduction and smoothness in both. I actually prefer the Chinese because of that, because it’s far more natural and the intonations and shifts in tone show actual emotion to me. The English dub, while also solid, can still sound like they’re reading a script, so for me, some of that emotion and seductiveness is lost. Continuing onwards, I for one have always personally found Korean and German to sound somewhat “harsh,” as you suggest, and so perhaps they can also come off as less romantic or seductive to me. But I rarely go around saying it because I recognize languages and cultures are forms of communication that have existed for far longer than I have, and are so much bigger than me that I never see the reason to voice comparison-especially because anyone who _does_ know that language a) knows it better than me and thus knows more on what they’re talking about and b) _they_ will likely care about that language far more than I can. When it comes to opinions on language, it all comes back down to opinion, which everyone is entitled to, but I feel like having and voicing opinions on language always _really_ show a person’s biases.
