Similarly I've felt it ironic that when one tries to get the most out of young/cute characters against adult characters, the latter were usually the more realistically-written, and generally proved easier to grasp anyway, especially with leads and antagonistic opponents. I enjoy a female/child character best when they are written in a way that is unique to them and not just nice or naughty embodiments. I also usually find characters and situations with an other-worldliness essence to them problematic because, if it's not presented in a dark ominous vein, it is rarely convincing, not opening up the sense of believability I deeply crave. Regards, Samuel F.

There is is one show called Bluey where the kids act like kids. Sometime they can be annoying. But kids can be annoying in real life.
@ron42023 жыл бұрын
I find this statement false. People find kid characters annoying is because these kid characters are just jerks who never learn. Real children learn, if they don’t, they become bad people. Nobody wants to have a bad person as the main character, so it’s best to have a main character that learns. So I guess the problem of many children characters is that they don’t learn their lessons and act like psychopaths. I feel like children characters that act like children are good and fun. Ones that act like mini adults are usually annoying.

I wonder....is it possible that “frustrating” characters that go through arc possibly work better in binge format? You don’t have to wait a week wondering if they’ll regress, after all. It’s one full story that explores highs and lows of a character. For instance, let’s look at Catra from She-ra. We understood where she was coming from, why she was hurt and so on within the first season-yes there was more that came later, but the core parts of her story were there. By not having to wait for weeks on end to see an episode that showed a more relatable side, but rather that you can see her toxic actions and sympathetic traits right next to each other, I think it made her character a bit more digestible to the audience. It’s just a theory.
@horlzonline11313 жыл бұрын
That could very well be the case! According to Craig McCracken, the idea of Kid Cosmic is actually 11 or 12 years old; however, he knew it would require serialization to work, and that was difficult in the past with the general format and expectations of the major networks, so he shelved it until now. I think there are many reasons this show only really works because it is serialized, and it being bingeable on a streaming service may really help it along in getting its serialized story across in a way that feels organic. It doesn't give you enough time to ruminate and have your opinions sour whilst not having all of the facts contained within the season.
@mitchfletcher23863 жыл бұрын

I agree. He feels like a real kid who’s still learning to manage his emotions. He really wants to be a hero, and failing so many times is frustrating for a kid with little patience compared to someone like Papa G or even Jo. Remind me of Gon Freeces from "Hunter X Hunter" and Shiego "Mob" Kageyama from "Mob Psycho 100" where those two aren't the savior of the most heroic protagonist in anime. For Mob, he's timid, shy, easily manipulated, and locks his emotions but throughout the series, he's been developing, showing more of his emotions, standing up for himself, and gaining more friends. For Gon, although he has typical shonen protagonist traits like energetic, care for his friends, and dumb but unlike the other characters, he is shown to be selfish, hypocritical, will be friends with someone that benefits him, even if they are serial killers, and the kid doesn't mind of killing someone, even if they are innocent.

@justradiclesandco Жыл бұрын
The fact that Kid is humbled and develops with each episode works really well. While there are a decent amount of kids in media who do strive to be good, whether it be from highly valuing kindness or feeling pressure from loved ones to be the good kid, it’s nice to see media that portrays kids realistically learning to develop and mature. Kid is naive, doesn’t understand how to manage his emotions, is impatient and brash, and doesn’t have the foresight to see how his actions will impact others. But what helps the audience want to see him grow and follow his story is that he means well and does his best to help others. That’s part of why he wants to be a hero, and Papa G taught him to care for others. He’s not completely selfish and uncaring, and he just needs some guidance. A bit of a spoiler, but there’s a scene in season 2 where he ends up trashing the diner when Jo chooses Krosh over him and everyone else. He realizes his mistake and comes back to clean the diner. Season 1 Episode 1 Kid was oblivious to the mess he made, and it was a nice touch to see him reflect and apologize. Another great spoiler scene would the scene where he sees the fake version of his parents in the dream Earth the team got trapped in. He has grown enough to realize that it’s just a fantasy, and that it’s better to be with his real friends and family. Overall, a great show with great characters!

Most other shows probably would've taken two seasons to flesh them out. I think the name Kid Cosmic is a pun, because of the comic aesthetic the show has. (PS: I want to see more seasons of this show, BADLY)

"All aliens are treated differently." By that, do you mean that there are alien characters that are not bad and out to be antagonistic? Ones that are actually fine with humans and even willing to fight alongside them against evil? Because if ALL of them are still badguys, then that's a deal-breaker for me. Also, you said that the kid who could manipulate size had the red stone when she has the blue one.

somewhat spoilery, but yes, not all the aliens are bad :))

Also another thing I love about it is that the main character spotlight may have shifted from Kid to Jo between the seasons, but they still found a way for Kid(and goo) to be useful in the end!!! I mean, barely ANY show does that! Also Rosa has growth not super strength-

My favourite thing about Kid is how realistic he is. It feels like the producers picked up some random kid that likes comics off the street, had him read the script, and recorded his reactions

People tend to hate on kid characters more because they think of them as “annoying” but I just find them perfect and realistic. People tend to hate on characters such as Bloo, Kid, hell, maybe even Caillou, because they’re ignorant, incompetent, selfish, arrogant, mean, etc. but children have less life experience and therefore aren’t really aware of how to act. They get hated on for being realistic compared to loved unrealistic characters such as Mac, Flapjack (idk, kind of?), and maybe even Jo. Bloo is only 5 years old, he can’t help that. He’s only a kid and doesn’t really know yet. He deserves more love and attention for how accurate and loveable he can be. Same with Kid, not with Caillou. Caillou may bactually be a jerk. Kids shows nowadays are unnacurately portraying children characters, and everyone loves the unrealistic characters and hates on the realistic kid characters. I think we should learn to love and appreciate some of the more realistic characters. However, I’m not saying all young characters are mean and selfish, that’s what I like about Mac, Flapjack, maybe even Max (Camp Camp). Their nice yet can be selfish and arrogant and portray the more nice and well behaved children while other characters like Bloo and Kid portray the less behaved children. What I like about Kid and Max is that the change throughout the series and become more knowing of their errors, become less selfish/arrogant/mean. We have to love the accurate kid characters.

Hi new here and I love this review. I wasn't able to watch this entirely before losing Netflix, but from what I saw and even re-seen as a promo pilot that would of been on Disney, it was a great show. And the review on kid was perfection, because for some reason I love the qualities he had.

I personally like how it tries to be a kid show, literally, but is still fine with killing people. that's the type of thing that gets me interested in shows like this, where I stop and say to myself "holy shit kid cosmic just killed that guy"

I know shows now are always wholesome and the main character always wins with a life lesson learned so much so that's its become predictable it's hard for me to enjoy a show I can already guess what's going to happen.

the IRIS part of the shkw was the best. it showed all the superhero stereotype,but this time they're AWARE something's wrong. and the idea of someone in the team knowing very well what's going on,but trying not to let anyone find out to protect the innocence of the main character is just..WOW.

he’s pretty much like Steven Universe He’s a good hearted kid (doesn’t go to school)who looks for adventure and friends, he gets powers from magical stones from space, his storyline is foreshadowing something very big and he has a some what disturbing childhood and will most likely need therapy when he gets older I wish he had an actual name though
