.50 Gunner in Iraq when I was a tiny PFC. Can confirm, life is boring and having you're waist down be encased in a frost unknown to man and your waist up being exposed to the hellfire that is midday Iraq is a shitty feeling. Chain Smoking, 3-4 full size energy drinks a mission. Pissing in an old camelbak that I used (and cleaned, I'm not gross like that) the whole deployment. Life was simpler back then. Sometimes you'd hit that crisp 30kph and get a good crisp wind under your sweaty helmet if you tip your head back a little bit. Thanks Nikko for bringing back some core memories for me.

Thanks for the upload and perspective on this! I was Signal Corps, Iraq 2004 and 2006. Being non combat, the best I had as a gunner was my 249. No protection up top, open and exposed, essentially just a hole that could spin. I only had to be a gunner when it was our unit's turn to escort the septic trucks outside the wire to dump. I remember the day our company got their first M2. We all gathered around it and quoted Red Vs Blue, "I could blow up the whole world with this thing."

One time, before leaving the FOB, I saw the recon vehicule before me (3 seater) that was supposed to be armed with a .50 with on diamond shaped open turret. Problem was the .50 on that vehicule was fucked up so they decided to not install it. The gunner took his pistol and put it where the .50 was supposed to be so naturally, then turned the turret and looked at me, we just busted out laughing after staring at each other for a second. Fun times !

I used the 60, loved that beast! Had one time in traffic that a vehicle wasn’t stopping while I was rear vic gunner. Had the Maduce at the time and my driver was telling me to open fire because the vehicle was just coming up on us as were stopped. I chose not to because I could see what was going on…the driver, I’m guessing the dad too, was looking in the rearview mirror yelling at his kids. He did notice, within about 50 M away, and slammed the brakes. Glad I didn’t fire.
