That is so spot on! The reason, I am finishing my Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, is my grandfather that taught me soldering using his Weller Soldering station at the age of 4. All the times I was in his "soldering room" (hobby-room rather) on my Grandfather's lap getting taught how this and that component or circuit works, that he created and often manufactured himself at home in runs of douzens, either sold directly to only his chosen few Magicians, or sold in batches to a German distributor for magician's special effect-equipment, lots of supplies, and consumables. I started repairing any electronics in my very first teen-years, and can now (25 y/o) fix almost everything for almost always low single digit costs in Parts... A lot of experience is involved though! And definitely some special tools (expensive!) measuring equipment or Hot-Air Station, Fluke Multimeter,... But needed most importantly is your own personal never to fail, life-dependable deep understanding of all the invisible deathtraps lurking where exactly in your exposed/defective products, or Electronics in general!

A couple weeks ago a mom was walking her son home from school and I overheard them talking about what he wants to be when he grows up. He saw me gluing up a 15ft handrail and complimented me on my work. I said "thanks buddy! Do you think you might want to do this? We need more carpenters! And you can make a lot of money!" He said "could you teach me?" And I told him to call me when he turns 18 and gave his mom a card. I hope I hear from him one day.
