This was a good presentation down to earth . I especially liked your explanation as to why you're using pea gravel .I wouldn't have thought of it.

gravel not necessary if the water dries up - soil would still be moist enough. You only need to dry it up once a week. Long enough to kill the larvae. If you want to keep water, then toss in some feeder goldfish so long as the water doesn't get hot.

Do you pop holes in bottom of pools. I live in a very heavy rain area.

Thanks so much for this video! I had watched Larry Hall's videos but he always just has a few pictures - never an actual video showing us around the pools. I noticed you didn't bother with his whole pump box system. Has this continued to work well for you?

Yep! Just have to water them every day or every 2 days, but everything works great! We also learned a lot from the NC Tomato Man videos. Have had 100% success with seedlings using his method. Good luck!!

Did you poke holes in your pool for excess water drainage?

So do you just place the grow bags on trop of the gravel or dig a space for the grow bag?

Awesome thank you!! Did you do anything to support the tomato plants as they grew taller?

Yep, this year we're using vertical and horizontal PVC along with some string. Also, poke the hole higher up on the kiddie pool and it will only need water every 3 days. Watering every day sucks lol.

Awesome! Thank you!

Just a little hole, eh? Some people make a bid deal over that drain hole. I didn't know you still had to water every day or so. I am going to try this.

So how did this turn out? Thinking of starting one this week

Oh they were super successful! The only change we're making this year is I'm now poking the hole about halfway up the kiddie pool. That way instead of having to water it every morning you can water it every two or three days. Plus when it rains you can keep more of that water and take 3 days off! It runs a higher risk of getting mosquitoes, but in theory I don't think it'll be a problem as long as the water level doesn't stay above the pebbles for more than a day. Or you could just add enough pebbles to have it go halfway up the kiddie pool, but that increases costs a little bit. Good luck with it, it's a fantastic method! There's a pretty strong community too on Facebook I think the group is called rain gutter grow system. The kiddie pool method is the simpler of their two systems.
