The plaintiff and defendant have three kids together. The plaintiff says their kids were born with crack cocaine in their system, so now the plaintiff has full custody. He’s suing for child support. The defendant admits she was addicted to crack, but only because she had a miscarriage and the plaintiff wasn’t there for her. She insists she pays child support regularly.

She didn’t blame her miscarriage for crack addiction. She attributed her crack addiction to **attempting to cope** with the miscarriage. And that is a valid sequence of events. The only thing that matters now is if she is not only in recovery, but is also she making repairs with her children. At $27K of child support, thas a lot of repair… and tbh, that takes years to climb out of if ever for some people.

Another example showing that most of these cases are not fake. I have mixed feelings about the scourge of drug addiction. There are a number of facets. One is the addicts' self-destructive behaviors. On the other hand, the damage they cause to their families, communities, and society in general. I understand JM's attitude, but his shaming, blaming, and berating this woman does little in a positive way. I work in this field and sometimes I get upset and lose patience. But then I regroup and re-focus on what I'm trying to help them accomplish. Their complete recovery. I want to really emphasize that addiction is a physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual illness. Please keep that in mind. AND remember how the epidemic started and for what purpose. Also, remember who profits from it.
