When I was less than 1 years old my parents adopted a stray puppy mutt from a shelter that my sister named Tutu. No we are both 14 years old and going strong, and he’s just the sweetest thing. I have never known life without him, and knowing that he’s in his twilight years is hard, but at least I can sleep well knowing he lived a long happy life with a family instead of on the streets. I’m proud to call Tutu my doggy brother.

WOW it´s never too late to open your heart for a furbaby, I´m 47 and have 2 senior tomcats, Gizzy and Thori (facebook.com/Gizzy-Thori-and-Sisi-da-second-hand-kittehz-576379702467034/ Sisi´s an angel now, but FB won´t let me change their page name), senior pets make great furamily members and deserve a loving home too, I could´ve adopted kittens from private too when I decided that I wanted own cats again after I hadn´t dared care for one for more than 16 years since I had left my parents´ appartment in 1994, but I adopted Gizzy who´s already been 6 1/2 then in Oct. of 2010, then adopted Thori who´s almost been 6 in May of 2013 and Angel Sisi at the age of 12 in July of 2014, unfortunately she got dementia that progressed fast and had zero quality in life in her last weeks/months, she crossed the bridge peacefully on the 5th of January, is finally at peace now....

I had a friend whose daughter was outside riding her bike when a guy in a car tried to take her and her pit bull ran from the steps knocked the guy down and had her mouth locked onto his throat. A passing car called the cops, it wss so crazy!

All these kids learn to treat the dogs with respect, and any other animal too, I wish I had grown up with pets too, but I´ve already been 8 when we got our very first kitty, my sister got 2 budgies the year before, and when I was very very small we had a hamster, the pet shop clerk had said it was a male one, but suddenly "he" had babies, and when one of them had fallen out of the cage I ran to our mum and yelled: "Mummy mummy, a mouse", the baby hamster had already been dead, but as small as I was, about 3 years young, I didn´t know that, fortunately, I´d only have been heartbroken if I had known it....

I grew up with a pit Rottweiler mix. We were inseparable. We fell asleep next to each other. We played all the time. He was 16 when he passed about 12 years ago. His name was Aber. It's a true treasure and joy to grow up with a dog best friend. I know it's been a long time, but I still miss you buddy. Had two dogs since then that I did and do love but he was special. Cherish your pet's like their family. You never know when your last day with them will come.

No matter how much dogs (and animals in general) hold my heart - and boy, do they! - there's still nothing better to hear than a baby/toddler's laugh. It's so innocent and infectious. Growing up with animals is the best thing for kids. Kudos to the parents for recognising it and acting on it, and not being too precious about germs.

I'm an only child, but I grew up around dogs. My first dog was a Japanese Spitz named Shakira and although she was a fiesty little thing she loved all of us. Then along came Mini and Bibo the Shepskies (GSD/Husky mixes). They were able to make the trip to the Philippines with the rest of my family when we moved there... even little Shakira, who was around 13 years old at the time and was still going strong. They lived good lives, really. Mini and Shakira are burried in my backyard. Bibo was taken to the farm my folks own and he died there. Ain't gonna lie, there are times I look back at them and miss them tons. They've taught me a lot, but the best lesson they've taught me is sometimes you just need to let go and move on.

This video brought back so many memories, not only of my own childhood, but my youngest son's as well. When I was about 4-5 years old, our neighbors had a Great Dane named Penny that looked just like Fenway. I remember coming home from preschool everyday and going straight to the fence that separated our yards and we'd sit there or run along the fence playing for hours until my neighbors would get home and let me come over. The husband used to sit me up on her back and hold me while I "rode" her around. She was the dog that started it all for me and while I love animals of all kinds, I've always had a very special place in my heart for big dogs. When my youngest son was 2yo, we rescued a 2yo, 85lb blue pit, named Tasia, that looked very much like Lebowski. She was seized by police in a drug raid, so we were initially a little nervous about having her around all the kids, not knowing her history (if she'd been abused/used for fighting), but she was so sweet and loving from day one. As soon as we introduced her to the kids, my youngest and her took to each other immediately and were inseparable from then on. She'd swing him on his tire swing, jump on the trampoline with him, ride in his Power Wheels jeep with him. He refused to sleep in his own bed without her.. she was a master closet monster slayer! I never had to worry about anyone messing with him. They stayed best friends until she, sadly, passed away of heart failure when he was 11 and though we miss her still so much, I'm happy that we'll always have the beautiful memories we made with her.
