Spooky. Exactly where I started, Smoke on the Water on a Sears Silvertone pseudo strat. Had no amp. Put bits of paper in the strings to make em buzz. But I thought the words were "slow coming warfare (a fire in the sky). Rock god!

that said, bobby here is left to battle with his mere mortal guitar and amp, and the devil gets all the whistles: drums backup and lightshow, and the same happens in tenacious d, where JB and KG get only their acoustics and the devil gets full power music show as backup... that's where there's an odd similarity

@insidebarrysmind Assuming Wikipedia is correct, it premiered on HBO in July of '89, running there for three seasons before moving to CBS. CBC (which I did have available to me) carried the show for its entire run.

Yeah, been playing for a couple years now and Satan finally visited me the other day. We had an epic guitar showdown that bent the fabric of time and space. But then Satan's mom told him to knock off the infernal racket and take out the trash. He told me "You win this time but I'll be back" and proceeded to open a portal back to hell. This gives me more time to brush up on my arpeggios and sweep picking techniques so I'll be ready when he comes back

Man.. I haven't seen this in decades. I Remember recording it on VHS off HBO back in the day because I thought it was the most hilarious thing ever. I made all these copies of the tape, handed them out to anyone at my high school who I thought would be into it. After that it spread like wild fire. Everyone wanted a copy. Pretty soon Kids In The Hall became the most popular tv show at Lynbrook High School in San Jose, Ca in 1990.
