As a social worker, I’ve seen Black children with non Black foster/adoptive parents a lot. When I’d try to offer advice and even help with their Black children’s hair, a lot of them would either get offended or shy away from my offers instead of considering how much hair affects a child’s comfort levels, confidence, & self esteem. The fact that this momma has researched info on her daughter’s hair care and put her ego aside to make sure the child’s hair stays neat and healthy is SO WHOLESOME.

My black mother didn’t know how to take care of mine and my sister’s 3b and 3c curls. She just passed down what she knew and that was to relax and straighten our hair with a hot comb. I didn’t even know what kind of curls I had under all that damaged hair. I’m 31 and just now learning to do mine and my girls 3b/c natural hair. I think that has more to do with the sign of the times. You have to remember that when you were coming up there was no KZbin, there were no books, hair care forums, blogs, etc. teaching black girls/women how to care for our hair. Growing up I had biracial or adopted friends who's mom's would take them to salons to get their hair done but the hair stylists wouldn't know how to work with it and would be either too intimidated or would mess up the hair. @@aloowalia2849 yes they do. They get paid to maintain the child’s health and wellbeing. Though some foster parents do not do this and instead use the money for themselves, which is illegal. The system is not the same in every country though. Some people foster to adopt, so the child stays with the family for a period and is assessed for their ability to care for them before adoption, and others foster a child until they are adopted out so they don’t have to be in a children’s home.
