@@shyguyx1219 this is my memory working, so im probably not on the dot, but i heard that they weren't on the same page creatively in terms of where they wanted their music to go. some of them wanted to do more "don't harsh my mellow" type stuff, some of them wanted to do more of this type of stuff. again, i might not be correct at all here

Great music that samples other gteat bands I like just make me happy. Wannabe hipsters will bitch about samples, but when I hear bands like the pixies, band of horses, and modest mouse get sampled in rap and smash cookie cutter genres, I love the music even more.

Sampling is different than taking the exact same melody. Rock band shouldn't sample other bands... rappers can sample but if you're in a band either cover.... Or write your own shit.

Are people really that ignorant? Of course they're sampling The Pixies. You don't have spectacular ears, and you're not the only one who realizes that the piano line is "Where is My Mind." It's not even ripping off because they released their album FREE OF CHARGE. The whole concept is a throwback to the early days of Hip Hop sampling and even jazz music when artists would write different melodies over chords of a tune that already existed (known as a contrafact).

Well if you listen to their album they included many references to 90s bands. It was a theme of their album. Ghetto - Horn section doing Smells Like Teen Spirit melody Bud Biliken - Solo over Creep melody/Progression Mans World - Mans world + reference to summertime. Non of this is stealing because the songs are still for the most part their own. It also not really sampling, its more like including an allusion
