I was interested in selecting Structural Engineering for my PG 2017 finished B.E & finished M.E at 2019. During counciling time 2017, I received a advance course information " Construction Engineering & Management " . Details where mentioned for this " it's a part of structural engineering branch for planning, designing, schedule, management " . Job I can work has project manager. During that time I can work has structural Engineer then jump into Project manager. When COVID came I was been lockdown. I was thinking for simply in home we can get trained for skills. In institute different types of course " Architecture, Structural, BIM " . I thought in BIM we need to work AEC for few experience then after 5 years Coordinator and for more 10-15 years experience we can work as Manager. Then now I realised information for BIM from senior friend who is working in L&T has structural Engineer. Please tell me Which think is best for my future career life sir ?

What is the expected range for the principal positions Mat referenced?
@jorgechidote2 жыл бұрын
Depends on the firm tbh, but honestly I think if you’re a principal you can expect anywhere from $150k - $200k. But that comes with so many years of experience and also investment from your own money to the company’s stock. That’s when you become a principal or associate

@banditboi02022 жыл бұрын
if youre planning on doing commercial work, probably structural. if you want to do industrial work CMs get paid the same
@banditboi02022 жыл бұрын
CM also ends up being more versatile as its easier to try different things and diverge into different career paths. I've seen a lot of traditional engineer graduates strike out and having to "downgrade" what they think their career would end up being. it depends on what you want

Personally used to be in design but switched to Government/Construction Construction Engineer $95k base (hourly work) + $25k - $40k in OT due to deadlines/construction work dynamic control of trades. Love it tbh 🎉

why you work more then 40 hours and get lower salary compare to other engineers like software engineer andcomputer.... just change your career like software engineer you will get more opportunities and higher salary and comfortable environment. i am civil engineer with 3 years of experience, and i will change my career, because my salary compare to my hard work it nothing.

Find a company that fits what you want in the civil engineering industry, every company operates differently, and a lot of ppl go into civil because they do not like the work content of software or computer engineering contrary to the pay. Enjoying what you do at work is vital for mental stability.

Hi Kienen, I have a question. As a civil engineering student, I always thought English classes were so useless and I just focused on math and science classes. Now that I'm interning as a project engineer, I see how important English really is. Whether it’s to communicate through email or writing RFI’s. I've seen the wrong choice of words can harm one’s company and cost the company a lot of money. Do you guys have any book recommendations or how to get better at this. Or any tips?
@KienenKoga2 жыл бұрын
Jose, thats a very good point and good thing you are catching on to that early. I unfortunately don't know of anything specific on that, but just keep practicing and running it by your managers will help for sure.

As a fresh graduate of civil engineering bachelors. What would you suggest I grasp knowledge of as I pursue a masters in construction management. Which courses should I put a lot of focus. Should I know a lot of CAD?
@tbayhell23042 жыл бұрын
Construction is more about schedule, work methods and $$. We use Autocad to draft things bluebeam couldn't. Furthermore, when he said "the nature of the industry is demanding with time" what i interpret is that it requires intense micro managing. Construction is in general as i mention, alot of time based on hard dollars. Contract starts up high and requires you to make the project stay afloat. So I wouldn't focus of drafting, but more into scheduling and budget such as P6 and excel
